At what point in a relationship do you ask her how much debt she has?

I've been dating a girl for roughly two months now. It's been bugging me for a couple of weeks so I finally pulled the trigger. She is close to graduation and is attending a expensive out of state school and from what I can infer her parents are well off, but not filthy wealthy. I just want to know what I'm dealing with. Leave no stone un-turned.

It didn't go over very well and she questioned if it impacts our relationship. I told her what she wanted to hear, but I'm lying if I said this doesn't give me something to think about.

Just assume $30,000 consumer debt plus however much college costs.

Definitely too soon, junior. If she hasn't asked you how you are sitting financially, don't worry about her debt.

Pretty early on. There’s different sorts of debt, but anyone carrying a rolling balance on a credit card is a huge red flag regardless of any situation.

You 100% need a full breakdown before you two even consider marriage.

Two months is probably really early though. She's probably thinking you are moving the relationship too fast with that question.

I wouldn’t ask until you’re considering marriage or moving in together.

You know the drill, post some pics of the girl so the OT can give you proper financial advice.

I've been married for over a decade and still no clue how much she owes Sallie Mae. None of my business, as long as there's cereal on the table for dinner then who cares?

Second date she brought up how she doesn't date to mess around and she wants to be married with a family. That line scared me, but it really has opened the door up for some interesting mature conversations.

That’s actually a good thing. It shows she really likes and respects you, knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to communicate that. She sounds like a keeper

Spot on. Sounds like she talks a serious game, but can't back it up

I think student loan debt is somewhat different than CC debt albeit depending on her ability to earn a good salary post-graduation.

I broke it off with a 30yo GF who earned $50K/yr and had $45K in CC debt. I wanted no part of having to figure a way to pay that crap off. There were other warning signs she was not "the one" but her CC debt certainly did not help things
