Well, the ones who can’t afford it, maybe, but for those who can it’s like any luxury purchase; only they can say if it’s worth it.

Which will be the majority of buyers.

Who the frick really NEEDS a foldable phone?
NEEDS? No one needs a phone to start with. No one NEEDS AC. Or a nice vehicle. Or clothes.
We live in a world of WANTS.
You are more than welcome to go live in the woods in a loincloth with a flat rock to draw on.

It is pretty funny how the deflection is “what about the billionaires?”

Can't think of a single reason I'd want a foldable phone.

I’ll buy it. I had a Samsung Fold for a while and loved it except for the fact that it wasn’t an iPhone.
Does the screen end up showing a crease over time?

Samsung is on its 7th generation of the z fold btw

Having played with a pixel fold for a bit, the big huge arse screen is pretty dang nice to have, but unless you're watching movies or YouTube, really not much other practical use case for it other than trying to convince yourself you'd be more productive with it

Had it for about little over year and no issues.
Finding a good case was an issue though

quote:My friends and family who are in the iphone cult had to swallow a little bit of their pride when their new 16 had to use the same, far superior charger as the rest of the planet. They can get past their pictures looking like a potato took them, and they can't see the Samsung components (out of sight, out of mind), but having to stick that charger in their phone every 3 hours because their battery life sucks really did a number on them.
It took them a decade to adopt usb-c, which was superior to their proprietary port in every way. Walled garden of bullshite.
Apple finally got with the rest of humanity and now allows their shite product to have RCS enabled, which is far superior to imessage in every conceivable way, so now if your iphone can't communicate with far superior Android devices, it means it's out of date and you'll have to get the new one and join the rest of us here in 2025.
It cannot be understated how effective Steve Jobs was at bamboozling millions of Americans years after his death (and any semblancenof the illusion of iphone "ingenuity"). There's a reason why mawmaws have iphones and techies have Android, and it ain't because of the color of a message, nor the price.

I definitely need more screens and screen time in my life.

In what ways is this preferable to a tablet style phone?
Posted on 7/21/25 at 12:31 pm to The Egg
If you read a lot of documents and spreadsheets, the foldable is very useful.
My favorite phone was a Blackberry Passport Silver. It's form made reading documents MUCH easier.

Well, I am referring to the people who can’t afford it.
Put this into context: I bought a 2006 Ford Ranger a little over a year ago, for $1,500.00 cash.
I drive it every day because it gets great gas mileage and the best air conditioner I've ever seen.
I have a flip phone that I almost never use, that costs $15 per month, unlimited talk and text.
I also keep a mobile hot spot and a $150 dollar laptop in that truck in case I need it for some reason.
The truck, laptop and hot spot altogether cost less than that iphone.

The only reason at all that I've been considering switching to iPhone after years of Samsung/Android use is because of iMessage / FaceTime and it constantly being a problem for me with family and friends group texts.
So, basically, Apple's business model.
I'm never buying apple for reasons like this. It stung to rent AppleTV for a month to watch Ted Lasso. Haven't since.

I don’t care for the 15. Apple is starting to not be worth the hype.

[Apple] will need to either farm this out to chatgpt or buy perplexity or anthropic
