I've applied to entry level jobs where I have more experience necessary and jobs that I meet all the requirements.

Luckily, I have a job, just would like to shift to a bigger company.

Can't even get a phone call returned, email response, or anything. One company had several openings. Just makes you wonder.

Actually, since Trump got into office, the downward trend stopped, and has been flat for a couple years now.

I had this happen to me. I'd bet my house that they haven't ever had anyone as qualified as me apply and interview. Their explanation (once I got them to finally respond) was that they thought I'd be too expensive. They never asked what I wanted

Just because you consider a position to be open doesn't mean it is. If they are holding that position for dark time or potential elimination, and therefore not recruiting for it, it is NOT an open position.

Robert Reich, professor and former Secretary of Labor, has some great articles that refute what you said.

quote:

A full-time worker with two kids needs at least $30,135 this year to be safely out of poverty. That’s $15 an hour for a forty-hour workweek.

Finally, employers who don't pay enough to lift their employees out of poverty are indirectly subsidized by the rest of us – who are paying billions each year in food stamps, Medicaid, housing assistance, and welfare, to make up the difference.

Some of this may be true, but you have to consider what sort of jobs these companies are anal about these jobs and are looking for the perfect candidate that doesnt exist.

The problem is most of these jobs don't have people qualified to do them and companies are willing to train people anymore. The requirements for even entry level jobs these days are rediculous.

There’s a difference between a job posting and a company that’s actively searching for people. Some companies just want to collect resumes and are searching for the perfect candidate and won’t fill the position if that candidate doesn’t come along. Other positions are actually important and companies rush to hire the best candidate.

What about the underemployed? From what I found about last year's stats, that number is 42,700,000 people. It's also hard to quantify people who aren't working to their abilities, so I suspect it to be higher IRL. That's a lot of people.

Sure, they might have a job, but the jobs those 42.7MM want/need aren't there

Considering how many lipitored-bumbling old economy Steve’s are out there still coasting and collecting a check for showing up, I do not believe this one minute.

Yes, I'm hoping we return to having a real economy making real goods, not a propped up financiallized economy as we had for far too long.

There are different ways to define things, and there are ways to spin or even manipulate numbers. Further, I'm not an economist. However, if you're telling me that there are generally more jobs and generally less unemployment (particularly in minority communities), combined with how I am consistently hearing about the larger and smaller successes of the recent tax cuts (I've seen an increase in my monthly paycheck), then I don't how this can be construed as a negative.

I also understand some manufacturers have planned to relocate or fresh build facilities in the US, reversing the previous trend. While the narrative of "jobs are good right now" could certainly be overplayed, the trend feels upward. I just don't see an overall negative here. Besides, when I hear doomsday predictions, they come from the left--and we all know how accurate they and the MSM are...

"Well paying" is a relative term

Open job positions normally mean upward pressure on wages.

These people should probably develop a skill, get an education and not have kids out of wedlock so they can have a dual income family.

If you find yourself making minimum wage as an adult than you made some very poor life decisions or your employer feels like you only have the bare minimum skills necessary to perform the job.

An adult in that situation should probably be happy someone is willing to employ them.
