Just happened that the policy change impacted the large SUVs the OT loves. A perfect storm of a thread for me.

I need to find out what your news feed is curated to for these stories. I love a good urban planning shitpost but I don't know which keywords I need to get the articles

Daddy Trump ain't going to save you from the grandma or local activists that show up to the weekly city council meetings.

This is correct. Some think that having Trump back in office will cure all of our ills. Unfortunately, most of the crazy, woke nonsense is being pushed by cities, local school boards, and state governments.

I got this lead from Not Just Bikes, the OT's favorite YouTuber. He dropped a good vid about the "jUsT oNe MoRe LaNe, BrO!!1" fallacy yesterday that will rustle the OT's jimmies.

all you voting doesn't matter baws this story proves that you are wrong. Only 5.7% of the 1.3 million eligible voters cast ballots and are changing local politics.

If you’re wanting to rig an election it’s much easier to not count certain votes than it is to add fake votes.

Jus sayin.

I’m all for innovation and the pursuit of renewable energy and cleaner vehicles, but punishing people for the buying what’s readily available is so stupid. You want people to buy electric cars? Get the tech to a point where it’s actually realistic for a massive shift. We’re just not there yet. Create the proper infrastructure and an efficient energy source. Until then, it’s work in progress with many milestones to achieve.

It's essentially already happening in NYC with their congestion tax. Also, I love the wording of the question on the ballot. Definitely not biased

What I also find funny is that one of those big SUVs can replace 5-7 smaller cars. But never mind that.

I can understand it happening in megalopolis NYC or Paris.

Bur people are incredibly naive if they think public transport will work well here in most of our country.

My man.

Gotcha. Anything else?

ETA: I am beset by tiredness at the OT's braindead urban planning takes.

Nah He was to busy developing the enforcement mechanisms of the Politburo to fully encase their subjects to the whelms of communism

Until he was caste out by an even worse dictator.

Sadly, even if more people would have shown up to vote this probably passes because it only applies to non-residents. So many people will vote on something that sounds like a great idea on the surface before they released that it's the first step before the government starts seizing more control. "We only want to get married", "Only listen to terrorists", "Only two weeks"...
quote:

The cost for non-residents to park SUVs in Paris’ central districts, in the arrondissements numbered 1 through 11, would soar to 18 euros ($19.5) per hour for the first two hours, compared to 6 euros per hour for smaller cars.

You're not getting European style public transport here, and you wouldn't ride it if we did.

Thankfully we're not as densely populated and value personal liberty too much.

Ahh yes. I must have missed the sacred right to a personal automobile in the US Constitution.

If it is more accessible and gets me to my destinations faster I most certainly would. Driving is a very inefficient use of one's time.

Strip malls and urban sprawl full of monster gas stations filled with landfill quality trinkets is MAXIMUM FREEDOM.

I think what you are probably intentionally ignoring is that it's not about the vehicle, it's about the government 1) wanting to dictate more and more aspects of our lives, 2) expand their control over the populace, and 3) take more and more of what the public has.

Did you notice how they never incentivize behaviors by REDUCING a tax or fee (and govt subsidies don't count here)? Funny how that works.
