Whenever I travel for business I prefer to try local places. Most times I’m glad I did. However, there are some quite notable exceptions.

1. had a trip to Tokyo for a week. A guy that I was attending the meeting with wanted me to go to lunch with him one day. He picked McDonalds

2. same tokyo trip, a larger group wanted to get together for dinner to discuss work shite. the guy who organized the trip picked the dinner spot. Outback Steakhouse

Ate all meals alone for rest of trip.

3. a friend had a work trip to Albuquerque. I told him to go to a place where he can get some Green Chili whatever. He went to Chili's. He genuinely thought that's what I was referring to.

Yes. There are many , many things cheesier. Love a little. Your life is an embarrassment if this is the kind of shite running through your head daily.

If this is the case why do chain restaurants have such large kitchen staffs? Wouldn't they just need a handful of people working the microwaves? Also why does it normally take 20-30 minutes to get your food? Seems like it wouldn't take more than five minutes

Weird Darden Group flex, but I will allow it given your wife is an Asst. Manager

Good job trying to demean my spouse. She no longer works for Darden but she was a GM and a regional manager for them. That said, care to answer my question why these restaurants that microwave everything need such large kitchen staffs?

I worked at Chilis in college as a server, the kitchen was usually:

2 guys on the deep fryers
2 guys building burgers
1 guy on the grill
1 guy on salad / nacho station

ETA: There actually was a microwave at every station, and two microwaves on the server side of the Expo Line. They microwaved shite quite a bit.

Did entrees come fully cooked and were just microwaved like a tv dinner?

Not EVERY meal on a vacation or during travel has to be some super unique restaurant.

I was only against chains for dinner. Breakfast and lunch I really didn't care.

When I worked in public accounting I spent a substantial part of the year in rural places in the midwest. We had a manager who would come out with us 1 week a month and he always wanted to drive 100 miles to eat dinner at a TGI Fridays.

People are extremely picky eaters. You are most likely the one that is different. It is best just to go somewhere everyone will find something they like.

It is no diff than having kids or a difficult wife.

Most everyone I know and the majority of the population prefer local restaurants over chains. It’s just most chains tend to have more variety and usually they get you in and out quicker. Which is why many times in group settings people go to chains, chain restaurants are also typically bigger. Y’all aren’t some kind of minority that “loves being with the locals” Most people are that way. As I said, sometimes it’s just easier to go to a chain, and I haven’t been to a chain in a few years, but I don’t have a problem with it, especially if someone else wants to go that route

ETA: I shouldn’t say it’s been years, basically I just seldom do it

I agree. Also these people are/can be miserable if every meal out is expected to be some kind of unique/high level and memorable experience. Sometimes you just need to get a decent meal that satisfies your hunger so you can go about enjoying the rest of the life, doing non- food related things, lol.
Every meal doesn't have to be at a 5 star restaurant, but for example, if I'm in New Orleans and I want a quick burger downtown. I'm going to go to Company Burger over Gordon Biersch. I don't see how that makes me miserable.

When I'm traveling for pleasure, food is one of my main considerations.

My grandparents used to drag us to chain restaurants every beach vacation

I live in Savannah and their is a Joe's Crab shack on River St. that stays packed. Red Lobsters in beach towns are the highest volume stores in the country. It makes no sense.

If it’s a chain that I don’t have at home, I’ll absolutely eat there.

The only red lobster I’ve been to in my life is in Fort Walton Beach FL. And I’ve been a dozen or so times

Would eat at Waffle House over just about any other chain, if it came down to it.

Give me a recommended local place anytime
