bitd I would only eat at Outback or good looking sushi places on business trips. Just because Outback used to be decent and didn't itemize the alcohol on the receipt.

You don't want to risk explosive diarrhea when you have meetings lined up and people you need to impress.

Ever since Yelp, it's a lot easier to eat at local restaurants with confidence not to mention that Outback has sucked major arse for the past 10 years or so.

I think now there is no excuse for avoiding local joints. I still only get coffee from Starbucks on trips though. At home I avoid it like the plague but in foreign territory it's so easy to get bad coffee. At least Starbucks is consistently mediocre.

Yelp reviews don't help so much with coffee shops.

I also only stay at chain hotels too. You never know with local hotels and we get a deal through work to stay within the Hilton family.

I also want to add that eating at the Outback bar did have some benefits. You would always meet other people in town for business and sometimes would be able hook up with some woman in town for a sales convention.

Checking out local cuisine you don't really find singles.

Some people like convicts squirting food out of a plastic bag into microwave safe container and heating it up for them.

People, for the most part, want predictable
I can predict that in cities large enough for chain restaurants, I can, with a little research on my phone find a local place that's better.

Honestly, people should quit eating local and take those terrible joints off life support.

Really hoping this is a poor attempt at trolling.

I have found that it’s actually incredible how many people are super picky eaters.

They have weird tastes and issues with textures and other crap.

I can’t imagine living life having to basically only eat a handful of things

My company sent me out to Dallas a few weeks ago. We went any absolutely amazing Brazilian steak house. I drank enough beer for the whole table and gained 15 pounds. Food was being thrown on your plate non stop

What's worse is pretentious people on ANY type of trip that stubbornly refuse to eat anywhere that's not unique to that location.

It's not a big deal.
agreed. There are some serious food snobs around here.

I avoid Outback because... I know what I'm going to get.

If traveling for work who gives a shite. Especially if you travel a bunch. I just want to eat and go back.

If traveling on vacation yeah I agree for the most part

If you travel a lot for work, planes, hotels, and eating out get pretty routine.

Sometimes you get to a place and running in to the nearest chili’s or outback quick sounds as good as anything else.

I’d imagine if you don’t travel much you may want to get more out of the trip and eat somewhere nicer or more local.

But if traveling is a routine part of your work, you care less and less about eating at an ot level approved restaurant every night.

Wanna be...

Most of them probably eat at local restaurants thinking it's a novelty without realizing 90% of their stuff is food service products from a warehouse.

The restaurant business is shady as hell.

I don’t think not wanting to eat at a bad chain restaurant makes you a food snob.

I've spent 3 years, on and off for business, in Billings, Mt. Sometimes I wanted seafood so bad, I had to resort to eating at Red Lobster a few times. I don't know if it was really that good or I was just dying for some seafood cause I enjoyed it.

Exactly. When you travel (can be months) for work, you get tired of 2000 cal meals. My team will eat at a nice place once a week, but you get fat quick doing that every night.

Yes. I used to sell into a very blue collar industry and entertain the CEOs of these places - oftentimes guys who came up through the ranks.

I would take them out to dinner - all on me and they would choose places like Golden frickin' Corral. I would tell them it is on me choose somewhere nice and they would say GC is nice.

I freaking hated entertaining back then. Now that I am in a different industry the entertainment is much better.
