I was at a convention in New Orleans, in the Quarter, a number of years ago. Colleagues from all over the country were there. After the first day of meetings a number of us were all going out for dinner but the group of guys from Kansas/Oklahoma decided to head out on their own... they went to a fricking TGIFridays.

I understand it sucks eating at those places. They are trashy and gross.

But don’t be that guy. Just go eat your Chicken Popperz with a Bud heavy and be a team player.

There’s a time to be a little snobby about food and there are times where you just have to go with the flow. This instance is the latter.

That is horrible. This must be very traumatic for you!

Are you being an arse to your business associates, or trying to impress the OT?

This is when I know to ignore people in threads like this.
I'm not saying everyone needs to do fine dining as an alternative. Sometimes a chain is fine.
Quit being defensive about simple people who are scared of trying something a little different.

Saddest thing I heard recently at work. Contractor project manager who spends a lot of time all over the country was working for us on a job in southeast La. We get back to work on a Monday and just talking with each other about the weekend. Homie says he took his old lady into New Orleans for dinner at Landry's. This was a 45 mile drive and he passed up on probably 400 better places along the way and in Nola.

Exactly what would that take? LoL.
No, I'm just trying to show some of these younger guys there is more to life than a Chili's

Next time just go with the crowd. Order a round of jallapeno poppers for yourself and the boys and just let loose.

Of course that's fine every now and then. Sounds like the OP is talking about people who do that crap every night on every trip.

It depends. Over a 15-year period in my career I traveled 50%-90% of the time. When possible I liked to try the recommended local restaurants. But for example after traveling for six hours and checking into a hotel at 9:00 PM, or after a particularly long day of work, I'm going across the street to whatever is convenient. After a while on the road, eating out is no big deal. Newbies always wanted to order steak and lobster for every meal because they could expense it.

Actually, that reminds me of a funny moment in The Office. Michael Scott goes to NYC and is talking about going to his favorite mom and pop pizza parlor in the city, like it is a dive only he knows about. He gets out in front and it was a Sbarro chain. You work with Michael Scott, hell we all do.

I travel all the time. I typically eat at the same spots. I eat mainly healthy food, and it is eaiser to expense. The local places can be unhealthy as shite. Chain for me is like Half Shell, Panera, etc.

You work with trashy MFers with no palate. Likely all overweight.

You do you and find the most adventurous one and go with them to a local joint. Or go alone.

My work is 80% out of town. Most of the smaller cities I go to only have one hotel and two shitty restaurants. Don't have a choice sometimes

That's so obnoxious try-hard that I might happily go to Chili's instead.
