Anything cheesier than being out of town on business trip & eating at a chain restaurant?

Good Lord, I'm out of town on a business trip and the people I'm with all want to eat at places like Buffalo wild wings and Applebee's.
Meanwhile, there are some nice local restaurants to try. I'm having to convince them to go to nice local restaurants instead of shite that I don't want to eat even when I'm home.

Frozen wings, nasty beer from moldy tap lines, and roaches everywhere. What could be better?

Used to work with a bunch of guys and we travelled all over the US. Everywhere we went they wanted to eat at Outback because “you know what you are going to get.” As if that was a good thing. I would go eat by myself and got to try some amazing cuisine all over the country.

Yeah that’s aggravating. I went to Houston once with a guy who I swear never traveled farther west than Morgan city. He had an inkling for some burger place. I’m thinking a nice sit down restaurant. No. We end up in some food court. I was pissed and in need of a drink. Got back to the hotel and met some other guys from the company, whom I never knew before this night. Immediately went to a little neighborhood hole in the wall bar followed by a shitty strip club. It was a damn good time.

What's worse is pretentious people on ANY type of trip that stubbornly refuse to eat anywhere that's not unique to that location.

It's not a big deal.

I would just order a few apps and bourbon straight .. not that big of a deal.

Not that I would enjoy myself otherwise at this shithole.

Preach brother.
That's all some people know and all they feel comfortable with. When I'm heading out of town, the first thing I think about is finding good local places to eat.
I understand completely if you are tired from being on the road all day and you are staying at a dumb interstate restaurant in the middle of nowhere and you just want to go to the place next door and it happens to be a chain.

When I'm in a real place with real options, I'm exploring and meeting the locals and their kind of places.

Personally I do not like going to chain restaurants at all. That doesn't mean I will end up at one from time to time... Locally.. But I refuse to go somewhere and eat somewhere I can eat any other time.

But for a lot of people its familiarity. They might not love the food at places like BWW, Chills, etc but they are familiar with it and the food is good enough for them to go and feel comfortable about going there.

With that said, I can understand going to a chain if its a work trip and its a group of people. That way, everyone knows what to expect, feels more comfortable, etc...
