Not afraid of death at all.

I could die tomorrow and be okay with it. 60 years old, I feel I'm right with God and Jesus, kids are grown and this weekend the last one will move out of the house, and my wife is financially set if I die. I've lived a full, productive, satisfying life, and have been kind to others and a good person (as i try to continue to be day after day.

Now, that doesn't mean I'm not afraid of dying some painful death like getting eaten by a shark, drowning, being buried alive, being burned alive, etc. Hell no to that.

Not at all. Pain and suffering? Yeah I'm afraid of that. I'm at peace otherwise.

Not afraid of dying, At 77 my years are limited to only a few more yrs more than likely. My main daily thought processes are focused on my grand kids, wanting to see them do so many great things in their lives. Did have a death-related dream recently, a first; my sister recently passed, my Mom several yrs ago & I dreamed they were both waiting for me, smiling as we walked through the Gate together.

With all these new sci-fi shows running crazy concepts about eternal life or at least consciousness, it's made me think.

I just feel like at some point in the future medical science and technology are going to cure diseases and severely eliminate or eradicate the ageing process or maybe figure out some way to transfer our consciousness to a machine. And they're going to look back at us the same way we look back at people who never rode in an automobile or airplane and laugh at the thought that primitive people used to suffer in agony and die at like age 78.

That bothers me for some reason - let's call it future envy. I can live with all sorts of product innovations that I will never see - revolutionary transportation, better energy, a car that never breaks, a better mousetrap...whatever. But I can't stand the fact that I might miss out on a breakthrough that provides a greatly prolonged lifespan. I mean, there's some sharks swimming around the arctic that were alive when Henry VIII was chopping off heads because their cells don't degrade normally. I want THAT, not some stupid iPhone makeover.

I am not afraid of death itself.

Now, the manner is a different issue.

From Ron White:

quote:

I was flying from Flagstaff, Arizona to Phoenix, Arizona because my manager doesn't own a globe. We flew on a plane that big. Like a pack of gum with eight people in it. [imitates sound of a tiny airplane]. What happened was we took off from the Flagstaff Airport, Hair Care and Tire Center there. We're traveling at half the speed of smell. We got passed by a kite. There was a goose behind us, and the pilot was screaming, "Go around!". We get halfway to Phoenix and we gotta go back. It's a 9-minute flight...can't pull it off with this equipment. We had engine trouble. We lost some oil pressure and they take told us about it over the speaker system of the plane, which was stupid because they coulda just went [looks backward] "Hey, we lost some oil pressure." [gives a thumbs-up] "Heard ya! Sure did." It was weird. Everybody on the plane was nervous, but I'd been drinking since lunch, so I was like, "Take it down, I don't give a shite." You ever have one of those days? "Hit somethin' hard, I don't wanna limp away from this piece of shite." The guy sitting next to me is losing his mind. Apparently, he had a lot to live for. He goes "Hey man! [gasps for air] Hey, man! Hey, man! [gasps for air] If one of these engines fails, [gasps for air] how far will the other one take us?" [As himself]"All the way to the scene of the crash! Which is pretty handy, 'cause that's where we're headed. I bet we beat the paramedics there by a half-hour! We're haulin' arse!"

What's there to be afraid of? You can't stop it and once it happens you won't care.

The only concern I have is the method of my death.

Who wants to go to pearly gates in a wheelchair and oxygen mask?

I want to arrive backwards in a supercar while on fire.

lol. I continue to marvel at the duality of mankind, both overly complex and overly simplistic, all at once.

Most say they are ready for death. I'm not sure how many folks are ready for judgment. (Matthew 25)

Anything you do can get you killed, including doing nothing. So you might as well just get after it and worry less.

I was in the room with my father when he passed away, recently. His death came on the heels of lots of health issues, discomfort, and some suffering.

As I stood at the foot of his bed looking at his body, I felt an overwhelming sense of calm and peace like I've not felt before or sense. All of his hardships were over.

When life gets to be too much for me since then, I think about how peaceful he looked in death and how easy it must be to let it all go.

Just remember, when you die, you will leave behind the good times and your loved ones, but you'll also ditch every nagging issue or problem, big or small. That's gotta bring a bit of relief.

I had an experience the other day, and it was like this. I chose to go and do something, which I didn’t want to do and didn’t have to do, but that I knew I should do.
Afterwards, I felt a peace and in that peace, I knew that I would be ok with dying or really with anything, if I could just have that sense of internal peace.

I realize that is somewhat begging the question. “Of course if you’re at peace then you’re not feeling fear”.

But what I hope is that we are all going to have a chance to find that peace as we get old, and if we do, then we won’t mind getting old and dying.
