Old school liberals- yes, liberals- actually believed in and fought for free speech.

Progs are nothing like classical liberals. They are authoritarians.

Mid ‘80s a long haired, freaky man spoke in support of South American weed farms and produced a “Bob Marley” sized joint and lit it on their behalf.
He ran away quickly when told the police had been informed. Has his picture in the yearbook that year too.

I was there 08-14 and remember both characters + the preacher. Good thing was you could usually hear him before you got close, which made it easier to detour.

Other shite when I was there: flag burning, crazy guy who drove his car into the quad, Indian grad student who committed suicide by jumping off the life sciences building, and of course pizza girl. I also seem to remember some girl who sued the school about abortion (she was staunchly pro-life and ended up being a year behind me in law school).

I remember the bible thumpers telling all the girls they were going to hell for wearing nike shorts.

And the flag burning fiasco in 2012.

Getting old.

This is just how crazy things have become in just a ten year period..

2010ish, some a-hole says he's gonna burn a flag in a few days. Hundreds of students show up to make this the worst day of this guy's life. Pretty sure an ROTC student may have choked him out. He is allowed to do his flag burning, but not without repercussions. Freedom and speech are protected. Meanwhile, the Christian table nearby is completely empty.

Mid/late 80"s Free Speach Alley "God Squad" as we called them...

I went to High School with Britt Williams. You would have never guessed that he turned out like he did.

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Free speech alley was definitely alive and well in the mid to late 90s when I was there. It never bothered me. I think it's healthy to let people express themselves, even if you disagree with it.

I was there 08-14 and don’t remember any of that stuff besides pizza girl and unicycle dude.

Flag burning...? I just don’t recall this.

Admittedly, I have a memory so bad it’s unbelievable.

I wanna say the flag burning incident occurred later in my tenure and I wasn't spending as much time on campus at that point, but I def remember the backlash.
