We had a poster here who in one of the remembrance threads years ago said he was I want to say about 16 .. his dad was in one of the towers. And didn’t make it home. I remember as a parent thinking it was so sad when the poster said they just kind of pretended that his dad was in an extended business trip.
I have no recollection of the screen name and I’ve never been able to find his post BUT I think about him every year on this day.
My best guess is he’d be early to mid 40s.

I remember that morning. I was pretty nervous going to school that day because I was planning to ask a girl I liked to Homecoming. Just before the first bell, I did, but she had already been asked by somebody else. So I was a bit bummed. Went off to my first class of the day, French. Toward the end of that class, the Vice Principal came on the loud speaker and said "The world trade center has been bombed." I wasn't very worldly so I wasn't even sure what the world trade center was at the time. It seemed serious to me, but in my head, I pictured this small building being bombed. It didn't seem real or relevant to me as a kid in high school, much like the Oklahoma city bombing did 6 years earlier.
I think I had English next, and my memory is foggy, but I think we watched the news during that period. At that point, I realized the scale of what happened, and saw the towers come down. Our whole school met in the common area of school and prayed for a long time. I remember kneeling on the hard floor, which was painful but to me it was nothing compared to what was going on in NYC.

There’s a guy on Twitter whose entire gimmick is to report news from 25 years ago, and his feed is wild today. I respect the effort he puts into it and it really shows just how much chaos and uncertainty was happening on 9/11.
