We had a poster here who in one of the remembrance threads years ago said he was I want to say about 16 .. his dad was in one of the towers. And didn’t make it home. I remember as a parent thinking it was so sad when the poster said they just kind of pretended that his dad was in an extended business trip.
I have no recollection of the screen name and I’ve never been able to find his post BUT I think about him every year on this day.
My best guess is he’d be early to mid 40s.

I remember that morning. I was pretty nervous going to school that day because I was planning to ask a girl I liked to Homecoming. Just before the first bell, I did, but she had already been asked by somebody else. So I was a bit bummed. Went off to my first class of the day, French. Toward the end of that class, the Vice Principal came on the loud speaker and said "The world trade center has been bombed." I wasn't very worldly so I wasn't even sure what the world trade center was at the time. It seemed serious to me, but in my head, I pictured this small building being bombed. It didn't seem real or relevant to me as a kid in high school, much like the Oklahoma city bombing did 6 years earlier.
I think I had English next, and my memory is foggy, but I think we watched the news during that period. At that point, I realized the scale of what happened, and saw the towers come down. Our whole school met in the common area of school and prayed for a long time. I remember kneeling on the hard floor, which was painful but to me it was nothing compared to what was going on in NYC.

There’s a guy on Twitter whose entire gimmick is to report news from 25 years ago, and his feed is wild today. I respect the effort he puts into it and it really shows just how much chaos and uncertainty was happening on 9/11.

Pisses me off to no end that the middle east was responsible for this. Was one of many reasons as to why I left LSU to join the Army.

I was in seventh grade. After the second plane hit the teacher turned on the TV and we didn't do any more lessons, just watched the news coverage the rest of the day until school let out early. I will never forget that day that everything changed.

Remember the anthrax scare that came right after it? Unbelievable. Official story is that a US Army scientist sent the anthrax letters and he acted alone. He committed suicide in 2008 before charges could be brought. No autopsy.

I'm still amazed that the South Tower wasn't immediately evacuated when the North Tower was hit.

No one thought that the second tower was in any danger. Between the overwhelming number of fire trucks, ambulances, and first responders in the area and all of the falling debris, the prevailing thought was that it was safer to keep everyone inside and out of the way.

A good friend was superintendent for my former employer who had the largest contract in the cleanup, literally sifting all of the rubble for clues. They found body parts every single day for 6 months. Garner of LaPorte, TX got the contract from the Harbor and Terminal District on the basis of previous emergency response work performance. A month in the Feds started paying the bills and took over from H&T with the FBI supervising.

I think a normal politician NYC mayor that doesn't hate white people and Christians would release a simple statement every 9/11 about remembering those we lost and never forgetting the tragedies of that day waged by evil men wanting to tear us down and that we continue to get stronger in the aftermath...yada yada yada.
If he has a statement I bet it'll be like "We remember those lost as a sign that we should learn and love other cultures more and welcome open dialogue to understand the divide between us more and work together"

I was home schooling my children. My husband called and told me something was going on and to turn on the news. I tuned in just after the 2nd plane hit, and we both realized it was an attack. He hung up and I called a friend who also didn't know what was happening.
We spent two hours watching the coverage together and all that happened afterward before we hung up. We didn't get back to school for a couple of days. My kids were 7 - 14 years old; I need to ask them what they remember.

Every time I watch that 2nd plane crash into the tower, it's like someone punched me in the stomach. Just a surreal experience watching it live as a kid. I'm sure older people still think of Kennedy being shot, Pearl Harbor, or the challenger disaster in the same way

The teacher was called into a small hallway in the back of the room that connected directly to the office. She came out a few minutes later and told us that 2 planes had been flown into the WTC. I didn't know what the WTC was but the look on her face told me it was serious.
We didn't have TVs on but the whole day at school had a heavy weight to it. When I finally got home and saw the news, I figured out how big of a deal it was.
One of my older sisters in high school asked my mom why I was looking at the TV like I was. My mom told her it was the first time I saw what had happened. She got to see my initial reaction to the evil, jumpers and all.

25 years later and it still hits like it happened today. This weird combo feeling of anger, sadness, and just pure rage.
Then it moves into disbelief about what New York has turned into given what happened.
