re: Was Saban truly better than Bear?
Posted by Rebbedup on 5/23/26 at 2:40 am to John somers
You’re right….the State of Florida wouldn’t have such a great resurgence in the late 70s-90s without that cocaine money. Funny how that ran dry. Titles in Florida started with Miami and Howard Schnellenberger. A Bear Bryant disciple. And a great coach.
At the end of the day Bryant was the greatest coach. But he didn’t have the recruiting system or information that Saban had. But he had less rules. The only difference between the two really was health and longevity. Bear was sick for a few years. Saban is in his 70s drinking V8s and bragging on Kiffin.
Mark it down. We won’t see their likes again. Horribly impoverished work machines. The kind of machines that money doesn’t change. They just pushed beyond 99.99999% of peoples capabilities.

Exactly what we wanted. Time to rest before a tournament that counts. I’ve seen so many teams play game after game and win the SEC tourney only to fizzle 4 days later due to exhaustion. 2021 Mississippi State bows out of the SEC tourney as fast as possible. Only to spend the next few weeks winning a national championship. Next year Ole Miss does the same thing.
So say you know nothing about college baseball without saying.

No he didn’t. He got more NIL money than anyone else in the league when it started. We gave him a great head start. So much so that LSU bought our administrator. Long before buying Lane and the most talented team in college football. The recruiting rankings don’t lie. And there is no more “building process”. LSU is loaded with paid for talent. So let’s see what they do with them.
We have had to buy a football team every year to compete under kiffikins. Lane bought the most expensive one yet at LSU. Let’s see if he can win them a title. He might. But the turnover never changes. You have to starve other sports to keep the Kiffin money coming. We put limits on him at the end because we didn’t want to totally suck at baseball and hoops.

Read up by whom? I know the media on the left ignored the left winged attacks on Jews at UCLA. And they’ve ignored the Islamic attacks on Jews and synagogues in New York and LA. So help me out with the leftist trash monkeys. Need more welfare?

You know when a brainwashed leftist becomes a conservative? When their kid becomes this guy’s next victim. Maybe you should spend more time in you broke leftist cities like Detroit, New York, Chicago and Baltimore. Kids graduate high school with a 3rd grade reading level and all gubment workers are paid above the private sector who become slaves to the elite gubment trash. Even your wealthy voters have left. Socialist trash is a cancer.

Bigot. This video is clickbait garbage. No videos found of left winged white democrats attacking Jewish students. They always go after the Jews. Hitler was a socialist
Really? Hard to argue UCLA. They have 6 losses the entire year. Hard not to see them going to Omaha. But Arkansas and Florida….not so sure. Oregon State would replace Arkansas on your list. I would replace Florida with Mississippi State. They are loaded with talent and are the most expensive team in baseball. And their coach knows how to navigate tournaments. And with the money they pay him, he should.
Nope it appears O’Conner has a handle on things. Why wear your team out this weekend? Not going to change your seeding. I’ve seen too many great teams Miss Omaha while playing day after day in this tournament. They made it a little better by going to single elimination. Best to go home and rest the team before the first round of the NCAA tourney. I’d love someone to explain why we still have this tourney and why there is still an SECCG in football. Seems like it can only hurt.
That is the whole point. Every year we make a run in the SECT we come out tired and flat the next weekend and lose the regional. Winning a game or two wasn't going to help us. Losing doesn't really hurt either. The committee doesn't place much stock in tournaments.
“Theirs”. Other than that you are right on all counts. Thanks to Saban no one will match Alabama’s history. Or his run.
To answer the original question.. a lot would’ve been different. Everyone associates Saban with all that talent. But don’t forget the guy was a great coach. Every team he fielded was motivated and had great toughness. In the playoffs last year Bama got ripped. That wouldn’t have happened under Saban. They lacked toughness up front.
I don’t believe he ran from NIL or any of that. I think he crossed 70 years old and finally saw the light. He needed to wake up some mornings and go fishing. Or enjoy his day instead of out working everyone. He earned it. And Bama was lucky to get him. As was LSU.

There is no reason to drag the Cartwrights into this argument!

I care little one way or another about LSU. Only when we play. But I did go to school with students from Louisiana. I think there is something polluted in their potable/domestic water source.
They are the most downstream of the largest river in this country. They are exposed to everyone’s gray water effluent. It’s like they all have a touch of Huey Long in them. Just living in swampy lowlands downstream of everyone’s shite can’t be a good thing.
But hey, it’s a theory.

And you whipped our asses. Yet at home we barely won the series. Baseball is a weird sport.

Oh so now the list has North Carolina. Might be a basketball thing. Or the Belichick’s child Ho Bag? That run of the mill young female would push anyone up the list. What is it with young girls now? No brains and expect to be rich and treated as “Queens”? Who brainwashed these prostitutes?

I don’t want to jump into a conversation between you and your liver. Mine can do one more beer but that’s it. Bar is closed after that.
The hint is when the cat and dog are staring at you shaking their heads.

I have to agree here. It’s not the students or alumni because it’s a really good school. It’s the sidewalk fans. But for the most part as a 55 year old I’ve been treated well at visiti g stadiums. Mostly because I grew up with us losing. LSU and especially State fans are the exception. They hate us and don’t recognize educated fans who just love the experience. Threats and throwing objects come to mind. Shouldn’t happen but we all have sidewalk fans that embarrass us all.

What am I missing at my advanced age?
Thanks to Frank Broyles there was no chance of Jimmy Johnson coaching his Alma Mater. Everyone discusses Nick Saban. But if Jimmy had stayed at Miami there is no telling how many titles he would’ve won. There are few coaches that won the title at multiple levels.
Worse than that just think if some dirt poor kid out of Fordice had been given a scholarship to Arkansas. College football in this conference even now might be a different place.

re: Lane was convinced by his family to stay at Ole Miss….

No he played himself again. He can’t leave it alone. Tuberville left and didn’t trash a school that gave him an opportunity. Ole Miss gave him a chance to salvage his career and he uses passive/aggressive attention whore garbage.
Just like his daughter said “Sometimes I think my Dad is a 14 year old boy”. He again put out a clarification statement today because he is still trying to win an argument like when you were in high school dealing with your girlfriend.
No one doubts his offensive mind. But he is a child.

Lots of gay fantasies with you. It’s creepy.

The retardation is strong with this one! Show proof of where he called any racism? Is he talking about black families with recruits?
