We here at Animal Talk are excited to bring you the new series, Animal Fights, where we explore the beautiful savagery of nature. Today we will examine a hypothetical battle between two magnificent beasts: The Komodo Dragon and the Mountain Lion.
Terms: Fight to the Death
Arena: Open Field
Weather: 85 Degrees F; Clear Skies
Combatants:
Komodo Dragon
Weight: 200 lb
Length: 8.5 ft
Strengths
Deadly bite resulting from the admixture of venom and bacteria
Strong Tail
Armored, bony scales
Serrated teeth – 1 inch in length
Super senses of smell and taste due to long, forked tongue
Strong 2.5 inch claws
Apex Predator
Mountain Lion
Weight: 220 lb
Length: 9 ft
Strengths
Powerful bite
1.5 inch fangs
Powerful forequarters, neck, and jaw
1.5 inch retractable claws
Leaping Ability and great reflexes
Senses of smell and sight
Apex Predator
Considerations
The mountain lion will have an advantage with regard to agility and quickness. But the komodo dragon’s tough, armored skin may make it difficult for the cougar to inflict debilitating injuries with its razor sharp claws. The best chance for the cougar is to avoid the deadly bite of the dragon, take the back of the beast and incapacitate it with a bite to its skull. The best chance for the dragon is to keep the cougar in front if it and clamp down with a strong, venomous bite to a limb or body of the cat. The dragon could then play defense while waiting for the cat to tire and the venomous bacteria to take effect. The strong tail is used by the komodo dragon as a powerful whip, and could also serve as a method of preventing the cat from maneuvering to its rear.
Results
After much deliberation and consultation with various experts at our renowned Animal Institute, we believe the mountain lion would have the best chance to come away the victor.

I have to disagree here.
Only reason the mountain lion wins is because it's a cool day.
They aren't leopards.

I think they’d both end up dying, but the Komodo dragon would die first. The lion later, from infection.
Komodo dragons freak me out.

If mountain lions are anything like Jaguars I don't disagree.

That's a leopard.
And they aren't.
Mountain lions are pussies.

Mountain lion easily based off speed and agility. Top speed of a mountain lion is 40-50mph, while the Komodo Dragon is 12mph

Mountain lions are larger than African leopards.

The dragon is armored.
But I'm not messing with either of them.

Komodo Dragon wins easily. One bite and it's game over.

Tons of instances of guys fighting off mountain lions.
Here's an actor beating one up.

Gonna have to go to the judges on this one, hoss. If the terms are fight to the death, the mountain lion might get the immediate kill, but it's also almost certainly getting bitten by the dragon and dying a slow painful death from infection.
I'm going with a draw.

I was thinking the same thing but the Komodo has two traits the cayman does not
Much more agile on land
Incredible sense of smell
The jaguar sneaks up on its prey, I doubt the ML catches the Komodo in the same manner

Mountain Lion. I do think it would win, but mostly I'm picking it because it's a mammal. I'm a terrible Class-ist.
