When I got married years ago, we allowed kids. It wasn't too big of a deal. Now that I have 3 kids, if I was to get married today, we would not allow kids.

I've been to all kinds of weddings, from the rural wedding with the groom wearing cowboy boots and jeans to weddings in NOLA that cost more money than I will make in a decade

never seen a kid ruin a wedding

I feel like a lot of people in this thread have only been to weddings at their local backwoods church and then headed over to the VFW hall.

You assume too much. Here's where I got married a little over 19 years ago...

Take the word wedding out of it. If you were invited to a "formal" nighttime party that would have copious amounts of drinking, catered food, and a band, would you think that is a place for children?

I got slammed for reading an invite and not clarifying my math. The OT has gone back to cut-throat stage. It was nice here for about a week.

Take it with a grain of salt. I know where you are coming from.. You get invited to attend something but in order for you to attend you have to find a place for your kids to go. For many people, a sitter isn't always available.

With that said, I have attended a wedding in which someone had a baby with them and the baby started crying and it only got worse. The priest stopped talking and just looked in the direction of where the baby's parents were sitting. Both parents got up and left. I am sure they were pissed and felt embarrassed (I assume), but its parents like that that makes people decide not to have kids at their wedding.

That should be an "and/or" there, chief.

I think of a wedding as a big family event that will be remembered for years to come. Your young cousins, nieces and nephews are family. You would hope that parents would use their own judgement and not bring a crying two year old but I'm not sure how to set an age limit other than no kids.

nope

and the time of day would certainly play a part if we brought our daughter or not

like I said, y'all do whatever you want, just my opinion that weddings are more fun when they are more casual affairs

but if I did have a nighttime formal wedding, I'd still just let the parents decide if they wanted to bring their kids, I just might be heavy handed on what atmosphere we wanted

That's why I actually think the "no kids" rule works. It's cut and dry. No one's feelings can get hurt. Well, should...someone will inevitably be offended that their precious angel that always cries couldn't come.

Is it that hard for you to understand that kids really don't affect the couple getting married. It's stupid. It's also stupid for you to get all worked up over it.

Actually kids can get in the way at weddings. The ring bearer of our wedding was my wife's 3 year old cousin and that shite head kept trying to go out on the dance floor during the first dance and then started crying when his parents pulled him off the floor. So yeah a no kid policy is not a bad thing.

I think most decent sized weddings are huge stressful extremely overpriced events. Lots of the marriages don't last long anyway. Big weddings are stupid unless maybe you have Lebron money.
