Alabama has been 6 laning I 20/59 between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham ( 50 miles) for 20 years or more.

They are still not finished.

To me, the improvement could come in either additional interstates, i.e. an interstate between Tuscaloosa and Mobile, or quality and reliable high speed rail.

This. Driving in the middle of the night makes the traffic problem disappear. Another solution is to drive on holidays. I drove from Charleston, SC to Akron in roughly 9 and a half hours on Christmas day last year. That same drive would have taken 11 at minimum had I waited until the next day.

One particular stretch of interstate that really needs to be widened is 95 in South Carolina from 26 to the Georgia border. Traffic is terrible every time I use it.

The interstate originally wasn't suppose to be for pedestrian use right? Or should I say, it was designed more towards making travel for military easier?

No, but people need to be taught that the left lane is for passing only, not driving miss daisy.

90% if the time traffic is caused by 18 wheelers or a minivan/Prius cuck.

Make them travel right lane only except for construction or emergency

I believe the military angle is how it was sold to congress.

I believe the main issue is that the cost of highways has greatly outpaced inflation . Also , how we built a road in 1965 is fairly similar to how we build it today. Yes, there are a few improves here and there like a slip form paver, but it's not like one machine and do it all from cut the trees to cut the ribbon.

Houston is widening the Sam Houston Tollway bridge over the ship channel...for a cool $1 billion! If not for tolls, there is simply not the tax dollars (that politicians would allocate ) for that project.

so long as we get rid of speed limits

If I tried to quickly and conveniently pass a car doing 73 because I want to do 75 , 5-0 don't give two shits . I'm getting a ticket for 81 in a 70.

Yeah. I drove to Biloxi and back today and the traffic on I-10 was pretty bad in both directions.

I generally agree but how do we finance it?

Cut the Dept of Edication and use those funds.

Annual budget: $68 Billion.

The problem isn't the interstate system. It's the drivers on the interstates.

Two lanes works perfectly fine in Germany except for the dense urban cities.

The difference? The drivers.

Cut the DoD budget. It's over 10x that.

Cut entitlement spending. It's way more than the DoD budget.

Interatate 65 through Alabama needs to be three lanes both ways from the AL/TN line all the way to Mobile.

Absolutely, and so does the I10 corridor at least through to pensacola from the west.

I agree that the DOD budget needs cutting and I can’t wait for the audit to be completed, but at least with the DOD we can see some actual evidence that at least some of the money is doing some good. That’s not true with the DOE.
