If slow drivers would stay in the right lane things would be soooo much better.

Certain chokepoints do need to be widened.

The example I am familiar with is I40 between Little Rock and Memphis.

It has all the traffic out of Texas heading into the Midwest via I55, all of the Texas traffic heading east on 40 to get to I81 to go to the Northeast, and throw in anything cross country coming east on I40, and of course everything going in the other directions.

I know it is summer traffic following the 4th but it is like this in the non-summer months as well.
We drove from Atlanta to New Orleans the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and the only traffic we had was on 10 west from Mobile to the MS line, and that was because we hit a massive downpour.

We drove back that Thursday and hit traffic twice - once on 65 north of Mobile because of a wreck, and then getting into Atlanta on the back end of the afternoon rush.

Eisenhower had a great idea copying the German autobahn

He didn't copy the autobahn. He was a proponent of a similar road network immediately after World War One, in 1919 when he was part of an Army convoy created to show how hard it was to travel overland in the US on the dirt roads of the time.

Civil engineers pretty much all over the world were on top of this idea, Hitler just got credit for making it happen in Germany first.

It would be nice if America had some Japanese style bullet trains.

Florida has 3 or more lanes through much of the state. That helps but doesn’t solve all the issues.

I think that refining on ramps and strictly enforcing passing lanes needs to also be implemented.

I love how California has stop signals at the start of their on ramps that spaces merging cars out at a rate of 1 per second. That’s a really good idea.

Actually, I find 99% of the interstate mileage to be more than adequate as they are. The only problems are where interstates run through towns and cities. Interstates should bypass all towns and cities, IMO. If an entity wants a major highway to (or through) a town, then they should build and maintain it themselves...Mississippi has done a good job of this in places like Tunica and Biloxi where they have doglegs off the main interstate to these towns.

Or even the 6 lane interstate.

It takes me between 1 and 1.5 hours to go 18 miles to work in the mornings.

And that is anytime between 6:30am and 10am with 6 lanes to work with.

I was in LA 2 days ago and the traffic was bad. I'm in Houston today and the traffic is bad. It will be bad when I'm in BR on Monday.

It's not just the south

I would imagine several other states do this.

Arizona does.
