Correct. I don’t want higher taxes of any kind. I want the existing funds used more efficiently. It’s spending, not revenue that’s problematic

Look around. It's all people like yourself. Leave a day early or travel early in the morning. Everyone would like an extra day at the beach. Leave a day later as well. Planning. It' like people who complain about contraflow during a hurricane because they left at the same time as a million others did. PLAN!!!!

The problem is still there and not how the system was designed

I can control when I leave for road trips. I really can't control our ignorant population continually voting in incompetent governments.

Amen brother. My wife bitches like hell when I make her get up at 6 AM on an LSU game day, and sleep in the car, but I’ll be damned if we are parked at the stadium in Baton Rouge in 4 1/2 hours. If you leave on Friday afternoon at rush-hour, it takes 6 hours.

But we pay too much in taxes. Dickbrain just passed a massive tax cut. Oh wait, maybe the highway fairy will pay for it, like the wall.

When your mayor is spending 300K on a disparity study then you are paying more than enough in taxes.

I know one thing, Interstate 65 through Alabama needs to be three lanes both ways from the AL/TN line all the way to Mobile. The traffic in the summer is horrendous.

It's left lane riders... And people riding behind left laners instead of just passing on the right. I pretty much average 85 mph on 65 and oftentimes doing 100+ on stretches of it.

65 is not that bad at all. Boring stretches of nothing, but usually going 75+ mph unless theres construction or an accident. At least from Montgomery to Mobile. Maybe further north it sucks.

It's miserable to drive anywhere at anytime these days. Too many people on the road now

The drive to lake Charles is the only way traffic isn't bad with the 3 lanes on 1-10.

Adding extra lanes is not always a fix. Traffic engineers have been debating the induced demand of increased lanes for decades.

Basically, the more something is available, the more people want it.

The way to actually solve traffic is to make alternate routes and mass transit.

Although, self driving cars will also solve this problem.

Probably OP. Interstate 59/69 from Houston to Humble, Texas has 5 lanes. Speed limit is 60 mph iirc. These lanes have vehicles traveling 70-75 during rush hour to work. bogs down near downtown. Going home is a nightmare. Plan on an hour commute to cover 20-25 miles.

Another way to solve a lot of congestion: Toll Roads.

Free roads get congested as anything. People don't drive toll roads nearly as much.

Toll Roads are also a voluntary road tax. Don't wanna pay the tax? Don't drive that particular road. Secondary benefit that way for the rest of the state/nation: no new tax on all.

Make new loops and such all be toll roads. If the time is more important than the money, take the toll road. If not, live free my friends.

To put this into perspective:

DFW:

US 75 = Nightmare 24/7

DNT/SRT/PGBT = 50mph rolling traffic 7-9am / 3-6pm, afterwards, 75mph+

It works 100%

They made the DNT 4 lanes and its super smooth now. I don't buy into widening not doing much to solve traffic.

Interstates are horrible. While it opened up much of the country to people in the 60's, it's crushed much of small town America and made road trips boring and repetitive. Always take the slow road if you can.

No thanks. The drive from home to my Dad's house is 800ish miles. I-77 is a godsend for me. Otherwise I'd be looking at taking US 21 and US 52 for the majority of my trip and no thank you to that.

All of I-12 needs to be 3 lane. And Mobile needs another tunnel or a bridge.

I-10 between Biloxi and Mobile is the worst stretch of highway in the US. A true pile of shite.

The Autobahn in Germany is two lanes almost exclusively. Yet it works amazingly because the lack of speed limit naturally lets cars separate themselves.

There is more to it than no speed limit.

1.The drivers are better, even though there is no speed limit on the open stretches of the autobahn, where it slows down in populated areas the speed limits and other traffic rules are usually obeyed.

2. Eighteen wheelers are forced to use the right lane only unless passing, which is not frequent because their speed is strictly limited to around 55 or 60 MPH.

3. The autobahns are meticulously maintained, and repair work is scheduled to have the least impact on traffic.

4. Vehicle inspections are more rigorous, there is even a limit to how much rust a car can have, there is less junk being driven meaning less breakdowns, and accidents caused by equipment failure.

Byjorn is correct.

Alternate small roads interconnecting already present roads that allow for easier travel to and from nearby places allows clearance on interstates for long distance travel it is meant for

When routes to nearby places are significantly longer or inconvenient too many hop on the interstate

Although someone said that once lanes are added congestion clears, that is only at first because now it is more reliable for those who previously were content with using routes off the interstate
And it then increases its use for unintended purposes

I believe 3 lanes has been shown to be most efficient for highways

But revenues have never been higher. It's almost like you don't understand taxes stifle economic activity.
