STG, I work with a 26 year old girl who got this sone years ago and witnessed a terribly chilling anaphylatic episode not even a week ago. She is very diligent about ordering foods from trusted places and ate some of a veggie egg roll that had some pork in it. The place hand rolls their own and it was cross contamination we guess. I was scared shitless watching her begin to look concerned, then go down hill. Epi Pen was in her other purse. People running all over the complex asking others if they carried one. It was a scene

I didn't see the "Star" spot but it was gray and about the size of a BB.

How long until you experienced symptoms?

I have a friend who got it (who also lives in NW Arkansas). He went to an allergist and they used acupuncture (put a needle in his ear for a few weeks) to treat it. He will still have a reaction to certain things every now and then, but he can eat meat again.

Is this something they think they can control through immunotherapy?

I was so paranoid about it, when we went hiking in May I wore long pants tucked into my shoes everywhere, and doused myself in Off Deep Woods daily.

Are any of you dealing with this?

I know a couple folks who do, it's pretty prevalent here as well. For some folks it will eventually resolve but it requires avoidance of any mammalian products (including medicine). I'd recommend finding a good allergist in your area with knowledge of it.

There's been some small studies about Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) potentially being a beneficial treatment for Alpha-Gal. But it's not FDA approved and hasn't had any wider scale, peer-reviewed studies so just keep that in mind.

Basically Bill Gates has funded tick-related research and he has also invested in lab grown meat. So the theory is he helped create Alpha Gal so people can't eat real red meat and will eat the lab grown stuff.

My neighbor had it but got over it in a couple of years.
He never had a full blown anaphylactic reaction,he would break out in hives, throat would tighten up and get short of breath.Went to E.R a couple of times not knowing what was happening.

His wife had a couple of Epi-pens,gave one to my wife.Saved my arse,I got stung by a bunch of bumblebees, got home, had anaphylactic reaction and passed out.Wife stuck me with EpiPen and I woke up.Now when I go out working in the woods, bushhogging etc.I carry an EpiPen.

My middle son had a reaction to red meat which was hives on his entire body, intense itching, swelling in the throat, etc. this happened again and he found he has alpha gal. The tick bite was about 4 months prior to that first scenario.

Hate to hear that. I pulled 7 ticks off me last March and April. Several others just crawling on me. So far so good.

My wife (no pics) has dealt with Alpha-Gal for about 7 years. At the onset, it was undiagnosed, and caused quite a bit of discomfort. We did determine what was causing her abdominal distress after about 6 months, and started making dietary changes. For almost 2 years, she only ate chicken, turkey and seafood. The symptoms began to show again, even on the modified diet. She is very healthy, works out and runs, and also takes supplements for her routines. We found that several of the supplements contained Bovine in some form or another.
We searched and found several vegan options, and started on those. The symptoms resolved for about 3 years. We slowly added red meat, or birthed meat, or meat born with hooves. She was remission for about 2 years, and the symptoms returned. We went the same route, but the symptoms continued. We further restricted her diet to include dairy, and the symptoms resolved again. She developed a lactose intolerance on the 2nd go around.
She went about 2 more years with the restrictive diet, and is now currently symptom free, with an occasional flair up, but it's easily resolved because we know the triggers.
It is something your wife will deal with for the rest of her life, so do research, find her triggers, and determine safe work arounds.
Good luck, cause going red meat free sucks for everyone in the house!!
