I can’t name one unique musical group that is even remotely unique or interesting today. Everything is cookie cutter

My MIL loves the 50s "rock" music like Fats Domino, etc
She does not care for 80s music like you're describing.
But, I agree with you, I don't think I can think of one good song in the past decade

Saw them at the GCC in Gulfport in 79. Girl I was seeing was from Tennessee and her father worked for the union that put shows on at various arenas and such. She worked part time with him and was a union member. She had a pass to go backstage and saw Gene and I believe Cher at that time. Wasn't a Kiss fan but it was definitely interesting show.

KISS Army charter member checking in. I played Destroyer so many times that I wore the grooves down to nothing.

Tom Snyder : “…and Ace Frehley..”

Ace: “I play the trout.”

Man this crushes me. As a lot of posters here, I was in the 10-12 range when I started listening to KISS. Ace was immediately my favorite. Just like others, my neighborhood friend group and I formed our own KISS band (I was Ace, of course). We made our own wooden guitars, bought the makeup, and “rehearsed” in hopes of putting on an “air” concert. I wore my copies of Alive II and Destroyer and Ace’s solo Album out. I still have all of those albums almost 50 years later. My grandfather (age 65) took me to see them in 1978 at the Centroplex. (He drew the short straw…ROFL)

RIP Space Man.

I read his autobiography. The fact that he made it to 76 with the amount of sex, DRUGS (Lots and lots of drugs and booze) and rock and roll he did is truly remarkable! According to Paul and Gene, Ace and Peter were kicked out of the band because they were unreliable. Ace's story is that he was getting clean and they wanted it to be a 50/50 split not 25% split.

His solo towards the end of Detroit Rock City still gives me the chills....shite was bad af....

I read all the biographies from the original members, and it was such a disappointment to find out that producer Bob Ezrin wrote the Detroit Rock City solo. I’ve been playing rhythm guitar for nearly 50 years, and in 8th grade got a LesPaul largely because it’s what Ace played. The only solo that I play is the Detroit Rock City solo (because I don’t play any lead guitar but it’s easy and is a classic) but always assumed Ace wrote it. He really didn’t do much songwriting.

Destroyer remains in my top 10 albums of all time.

Gene has admitted that he treats KISS as a money making business. And he looks to maximize profits.
He'd be a heck of a private equity firm CEO.

Yes, I heard an interview with Gene and Paul done by Chris Jericho (the wrestler) about 10 years ago.

They already have a continuity plan in place for whenever the time comes that Gene and Paul can no longer perform. They will be replaced by younger guys, and the band will continue performing and putting out new music on occasion.

I've seen them 4 times. 1976, 1977, 2012 and 2021.

i totally agree. That solo he did was so OP back in the day and still os of you love good hard rock. I also loved Kiss Alive 2. I was an 80s kid so. Listening to Kiss songs brings back so many old memories man. RIP ACE.

Kiss Alive was a damn good rock album
It was a phenomenon unlike anything we had seen. Not knowing what they really look like without makeup added to the appeal and the music was just loud, fast and rocking and what a SHOW they put on. It was crazy fun.

They sold the entire KISS empire and will be replaced by avatars. True story.

I wonder Ace and Peter were driven to substances because Paul and Gene were so insufferable.

Not improbable. Gene & Paul = Eddie & Alex?

Ace & Peter = Mikey & Sammy?
