I spoke to a friend of mine who is one of the GC Project Managers and he said he doesn't think the new terminal will open in May due to the numerous GC involved in the project and the lack of coordination between them.
Delta Airlines’ website says otherwise.

I’m contemplating a SWA flight to HOU on 5/14 (last plane out) and returning 5/15 on the first flight from HOU into the new terminal.

Mitch and all his buddies got paid before he was out of office. He sped up the process without thought or a care to the logistical nightmare this will cause. He is a massive Tool. A embarrassment to NOLA and that is saying something.

Everything I’ve heard is that they are good to go on May 15. The actual airport won’t be a problem at all. It’ll be great.

It’s:

The cargo people are fricked over

And

Getting TO the airport will be a nightmare.

They just started drilling holes for the new street lights so they can take out the old ones and widen the off ramp.

I'm not looking forward to the line of cabs both ways every day. I've been using vintage to and from power to commute.

but the government has been led for the last 4 years by someone other than Jindal.

Jindal did absolutely nothing - didn't try to find money, didn't discuss it, didn't do a damn thing. It's taken JBE way too long to get to this point, but he did have to try to find a funding mechanism, which he eventually did (sell bonds to be paid off with future federal block appropriations to LA).

This whole thing is a cluster and should have been planned out better.

Here's what really gets me... They are using a design-build, which I agree is the way to go here. But they haven't even picked a firm yet. The contract isn't even supposed to be let until later this summer. I'm struggling to understand how it takes 4 years under a design-build concept to do this. The entire Katy Freeway was totally rebuilt including two massive interchanges, using design build, in 6 years.

This is all about the money. This could be done much faster if more funding were provided for overtime hours both in the engineering phase and a 24-7 construction cycle.

If this is a huge cluster, JBE should declare an emergency (no, not joking), which would release the necessary funding to accomplish it in 1/5th of the time.

4) No taxes have been increased to pay for this. It's being paid for by the airlines, airport bonds, and the feds. The landing fees are going up like $1 per passenger.

That is what people forget, the aiport is funded by municipal bonds (secured by future landing fees and PFC revenue) as well as FAA AIP grants. None of the $1 billion comes from the average New Orleans resident. The airlines each have a majority in interest (MII) clause in their use and lease agreement that allows them to sign off or torpedo any capital improvement plan. They all agreed to this (in no small part due to the rsising O&M costs of the old facility).

The airlines count on the city and state to handle the roadway access, basically anything off airport property that does not hit their rates and charges base (what the airlines pay the airport each year). Jindal and Mitch done fricked that up.

So wait. Can I still take the normal ramp off I-10W to get to MSY?

I assume (since most times I have a rental car) things wont change and I just go to the rental car area then wait for a damn shuttle?

You can't include concourse A. It hasn't been used in a long time.

You complain about Love so much. Do you have PreCheck? I've never had a bad time going through security at Love. It's a breeze with PreCheck
