So is it really true you will have to take a shuttle to even get to the terminal?

You will only need to use a shuttle if you are going to/from the rental car facility, or, you are using the overflow garages (what is the current garages along Airline Drive will become overflow garages).

My understanding is that they will have to exit the airport, go down Veterans to the current access road, then down the access road to the south side area.

At least you can get a great Po boy at Check in Check out while waiting in traffic and before being robbed on Aberdeen.

The terminal was barren and there was litter everywhere in the gates. Trashy people left their shite on the floor and trashy janitors at MSY don't do their jobs.

They have completely given up on caring about the current terminal.

New Orleans? The population of the city and state are shrinking / growing very slowly along with the population of the neighboring state.

New Orleans is a Southwest HUB and it is one of the major business conference & tourist destinations in the US.

Is it really an expansion if the new airport has less gates for airplanes?

Literarly no one is saying it is an expansion. It's a replacement.

36 gates. They aren't using that many gates at the current facility.

I fly out of love all the time. I have precheck and I’ve never waited in line. at the people that think applying for precheck is giving the govt more info than they already have.

The airport can build it, but TSA has to staff it. So... if only 3 are open, blame TSA.

And airport passenger counts continue to rise every year.

MSY currently has 40 terminals/gates (46 if you include Concourse A) at the old Airport and the new terminal will have 35 terminals/gates.

They don't use all the gates in B/C/D. Partly because some of them are too close together for modern aircraft.

Currently at the Airport:

Southwest is using B2, B4, B5, B7, B8, B9, B15

American is using C8, C10, C12, C15, C16, Jet Blue is using C5, Spirit C1, C2 and C4, Alaska is using C6, British is using C11, Frontier is using C7

Delta D4, D6, D8, D10, D11 United D1, D3, D5, D7 (shared), D9

So 29 gates are being used today, and some of them are only for one or two flights.

I have a trip to NOLA planned for mid-May. Rather than fly I decided to make the 10 hour drive.

This is an opportunity for St Charles Parish.

Put a few of these in the parish canal and profit

These threads are always fun.

1) Remind me who was the governor when the new airport was announced, bid, and construction started? The interstate is controlled by the state. The state, specifically, Jindal and the GOP that run the state, decided to not build a new exit. They get 100 percent of the blame for the upcoming traffic disaster.

2) Ever wonder why MSY never had self-tagging for bags for Southwest? Because our baggage system couldn't handle it. that's just one of the problems with the current airport. It's a dump. The cost of a complete overhaul, not to mention the inconvenience, meant that a new facility was a better deal.

3) Every time I fly home, I am absolutely embarrassed that the airport is the first impression many visitors get.

4) No taxes have been increased to pay for this. It's being paid for by the airlines, airport bonds, and the feds. The landing fees are going up like $1 per passenger.

This is going to be great for the city and the region. Yes, the access is going to be an issue. Thanks Jindal.

I didn’t down vote you and I’m no fan of Jindal, especially after his first term, but the government has been led for the last 4 years by someone other than Jindal.

This whole thing is a cluster and should have been planned out better. But that’s one thing LA government has never done well

Won’t be super terrible, most of the parking will utilize the current garages and shuttle buses to the new terminal. But he state really dropped the ball on this.

All great points. The new airport is beautiful. One centralized security checkpoint is how most modern airports are designed. I am pumped about it.
