BATON ROUGE - Julia "Hurricane" Hawkins, the capital area's iconic 105-year-old runner, is set to make history on the track once again.

Hawkins is scheduled to participate in the 100-meter race at the Louisiana Senior Games in Hammond. The event will make Hawkins the first U.S. athlete to set a masters track world record in the 105+ age division.

I hope I am that active when I’m 30 years younger than she is now.

The joke was obviously that there are no other 105+ yos runners. There are very few 105+ yos period.

Sheesh people.

Hell, most centenarians, the only run they get is in their underpants

This is cool; I like seeing these stories. There's alot to be said about actually living to that age, when most who get to 100 are simply surviving. There's a difference. If I can live to 100, great. If I'm only surviving, I don't know that I'd want it.

She only has to run 100 meters. I'm pretty sure I could do that.

I always get a kick out of centenarian answers about their "secret" to longevity. It's always something like "I eat 4 hot dogs a day". shite, I can do that.

I'd like to enter a 100m race.
Was a sprinter in high school, and all I ever see are 5k's, 10k's, halfs, and full marathons.
I think I could handle a few in my age bracket at a 100 m run.

Probably won't be able to at 105.

After 100, you probably don't need any more divisions.

Why would you practice running when you could just carry a gun?

Even more impressive considering all the BR bullets she's dodged over the years.

You will be dead long before 105 years old let alone even walking with a walker 100 yards
