Why are there so many Saints-haters LSU fans?

The Saints-hating LSU fans that feel an irresistible urge to come over to Saints Talk and shite on the Saints with anti-saint posts non stop are of the same level of disgust as the anti-America liberal Democrats.

Is it because they are all bandwagon fans of traditionally successful teams like Cowboys or Steelers when they thought it “uncool” to root for a loser Saints franchise in the shitty days? And now they have to much pride to get on the bandwagon?
Or do they hold a grudge over the mentality that the saints “hate and don’t draft” LSU players?

They are jealous of the amount of love Sean Payton receives and just the amount of attention the Saints receive in general.

I don’t think there are really that many.

It's a Baton Rouge thing. By the way, a lot of Saints fans can't stand the Tigers.

It's weird and very true. There's this weird contingent of old guy LSU fans that hate the Saints.
I never understood it. Is it backlash from the Saints sucking for so long? Do they feel the Saints somehow take attention away from LSU? Is it just a BR vs Nola thing? Who knows?

I travel across the state a fair amount and have met multitudes of LSU fans and I can't think of one that hate the Saints. Find something else to complain about

Some LSU fans think there's a hidden agenda in which the Saints refuse to draft/trade for LSU players. It's ridiculous.
I'll never understand LSU fans who don't love the Saints.

According to my south La folks I know it’s overwhelmingly Saints love down there. In north La it’s 50/50 from minden to Shreveport. From Ruston headed east it’s probably 75/25 Saints fans, all else are Cowboys fans. Everyone I know in north La are pretty much LSU fans, the ones that like college football. I do know a lot of Saints fans that don’t pay much attention to college football though. You are probably basing your thoughts off this board where many LSU folks aren’t from La, and then you have the trolls.

IDK, I love both.
There are also a number of Saints fans who hate LSU.. so it could be that..

Basically my post in another thread.

Not really. LSU’s campus is not comprised of 100% people from Louisiana. And just because they decided to go to LSU, they shouldn’t automatically align themselves with the Saints

As a fan of both, my perception has been that it’s saints fans hating on LSU. FWIW.

I think it comes down to this -- decades ago, NOLA was Tulane/Saints country, while Baton Rouge was LSU/[insert bandwagon NFL franchise] country. Then things changed:
1. The Tulane-LSU rivalry died off, and LSU became extremely successful 20 years ago, allowing NOLA people to warm up to rooting for LSU, but there are still those in the older NOLA generation who see LSU as the "enemy" or just plain don't care about LSU.
2. The post-Katrina success of the Saints turned them from lame lovable losers to a team to be proud of, warming the rest of the state and gulf coast up to them. But there are still older generations who don't care and never will have the passion for the franchise like their lifelong passions for LSU.
For my generation, Louisiana is LSU/Saints territory completely and wholly.
* As an aside: I also think there is a racial component here, unfortunately... LSU and its culture and its rivalries used to be seen as "white" (LSU, Tulane, Ole Miss, etc. all being heavily white) with Southern University and its culture (rivalry with Grambling etc.) drawing the "black" crowd. Changes in recruiting and football culture have ended that perception in NOLA with black families wanting their kids to go to LSU now.
EDIT: for reference I'm a white guy born and raised in NOLA but attended LSU.

I like both but they play two completely different styles of football so I understand why many people wouldnt be fans of both

it is none of that. i will tell you what it is. Many hated taxpayer money going to the saints and benson. They bitched about for decades. there is your answer. kmnow you will know in future conversations. all boils down to state money. look up the history of it if you were not around then.

I’m a fan of both teams, but I have to say... this is not a one-sided thing.
On this board, I’ve seen just as much of not more LSU “hate” than the other way.
It’s especially curious considering this is a page on an LSU-themed site. There are some here who seem to have trouble making that connection. This page exists because of LSU fans who are interested in the Saints, not the other way around.
