I don't see why the bears are taking so long if they are going to match. I don't think there's bad blood he came to Benson funeral

When teams match they generally do so at the very last second in order to frick the other team.

The Bears took until late March 20th (had until March 21st) to match the offer on Kyle Fuller (after the packers signed him to a offer sheet on Friday, March 16th). This was for a CB who had injury history, but was really the only option at the position.
If the Bears do not match today, there is probably a 55% chance they do not match.

It was in the media the day of the offer sheet signing that they were going to match on Fuller.

Pace announced the same day that they would match, but waited until the last moment to do so. We all assume this was done to freeze the cap space of a division rival.
The Meredith situation is different because it is happening during the trail end of FA, the contract isn't so huge that it's crippling the Saints by waiting, and we have to figure that Loomis and Pace still have somewhat of a decent enough relationship.
One of the Bears' writers wrote an article on how the Bears took a risk by not tendering him at a 2nd round value, for about a $1 million more, which would ultimately guarantee that they have him for a year. Bears fans all have this group-thought that Pace tendered Meredith at his draft value (undrafted, so no compensation for Chicago if not matched) so another team can negotiate a multi year dear on behalf of the Bears, because a 2nd round pick would deter another team from doing so. Just because the Bears have the cap space (~$33 mil) to match potentially any deal for Meredith, doesn't mean that they don't have a price point on Meredith. Especially after spending on Robinson, Gabriel, and Burton.
If the Bears didn't want to guarantee retaining Meredith for $2.9 mil for 1 year, would they want to pay $9.6 for two years? Even if they match, their tender seems to have back fired on them being that they would only have him for one extra year, for almost twice the cost per year.

I've always felt that there is a 75% chance the Bears match. They have a ton of money available, and FA is very limited now.

Nothing new I see, Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

Just saw where the bears have 17.8% of their cap on wideouts before Meredith.
Seems like they should match but can't wait till they don't.
Dude is going to make drew very happy on third downs.
Our offense will look alot better next year
