Saints are signing Bears’ restricted free-agent WR Cameron Meredith to an offer sheet, per source.

Saints’ WR coach Curtis Johnson is the former Bears’ WR coach, and knows Meredith well.

Obviously only half the battle here, Bears can match it and retain him if they want

Cameron Meredith now becomes the second Bear this off-season to sign an offer sheet with another team. Earlier, CB Kyle Fuller signed an offer sheet with the Packers that the Bears matched.

I wonder if we asked Pace if we'd be wasting everyone's time with offer "x" before actually making it.

I feel pretty good they may not match given that possibility.

Good move.

I found this interesting:

"THE DOUBLE MOVE
The double move is a deception route where you are trying to draw the defender up and then beat him over the top. These routes consist of the Quick Out and Up, the Out and Up, the Slant and Go, and the Hitch and Go. In order to run the route well, you need to have both sufficient patience to draw the defender in, and enough explosiveness to blow by him. These are slower-developing routes that require the offensive line to give the QB time to throw the ball down the field. QBs typically throw these routes on a five- or seven-step dropback with an aDOT of 23.48 yards.

Best double move (min. 4 targeted routes): Cameron Meredith, Chicago Bears

Cameron Meredith scored four touchdowns in 2016, two on double moves. Meredith caught all 5 of his targets for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had a perfect receiver rating of 158.3 and averaged 26.2 yards per catch. He caught 37 of the 49 passes thrown to him when running just the first aspect of the route i.e. just the slant, not the slant and go, which lured defenders into sitting on the first move, allowing Meredith to explode by them"

Good move. He’s better than Jordan Matthews

The Bears used the transition tag to find Fuller’s market. They absolutely needed him and I don’t think they ever had any intention of letting him go.

Meredith is a little different just because they just signed two WRs for pretty big money in FA. Hopefully Loomis & co did their homework and structured the Meredith deal in a way that would damage the Bears cap in specific years to where they’d decide not to match

Unlikely they match, after signing Robinson and Gabriel, and White still on the roster.

Meredith was a beast before he hurt his knee. Would really like the signing. Bears just signed Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Trey Burton so you would think it's unlikely they match

Really like this. Had a very productive season in 2nd year with crap qbs. He’s still young and would only be 28 at end of contract.

Just yesterday, Bellamy signed his tender, so that may have been the trigger that the Saints needed to put this to paper.

Bears fans on Reddit are pretty confident that they will match the offer

Think it's very possible they match. Gabriel isn't a #2 WR and Kevin White is a zero at this point. That isn't much money.
