We don’t know. The sample size is just too small and now the league has tape on him. I certainly don’t think he’s going to be a bad qb but anywhere from top 5 to top 18 wouldn’t surprise me.

On the flip side, he has an entire offseason and training camp working with the 1’s and developing a rapport with them. I say he’s top 8-10 this year and will be a top 5 maybe by the following season.

Fans assume QB progression is linear. Moore’s made his MO clear in the offseason - establish the run. If this goes as planned, Shough will be fine. We will be in some shootouts that he will have to win. We about to find out real quick

I think a lot of people forget he put up #s and wins handing off to Estime and having Kevin Austin as WR 2/3 for half a dozen games

He’s a top 5 qb. Just needs to blossom.

Are you expecting that this year? You never really answered the last time.

Shoughs worst game last year was vs TB when he didn't start til Q3. If you double those stats and add them to his season totals he had 2,512yds last season in 10 games.

4,048- 2,512= 1,536yds
1,536yds ÷ 7 games = 219.43yds per game

Shough would've only had to average 220yds per game last year in the 7 games he didn't play to pass Darnold for Top 5.

He averaged 243.8 passing yards per game started.

On top of it being a reality this year its also 100% fair to say he could have been in the Top 5 convo last year with a full 17 game season.

Hate to break that to you.

Do you think Tyler Shough could have averaged 220yds per game he didn't play last year after averaging 243.8yds in the games he started?

that’s a wild prediction.

Sophomore slump is much more the norm than a sophomore jumping into the top 10.

Besides Mahomie and Herbert I’m having a hard time thinking of others in recent memory.

Long list of regressions:
CJ
TLaw
minshaw
Watson
Purdy
Mariota
Mac jones
Danial Jones
Bradford
Dak
RG3
Jayden

Allen was much better his second year. Burrow was hurt his rookie season but went to the super bowl in the 2nd with a bad roster and coach. Love and Hurts were better in their second seasons. I think your list speaks to the lack of QB talent drafted from about 2018 on.

Man, Josh Allen had one of the worst Senior Bowl weeks that there have ever been. I was actually there b/c in those days it was at Ladd still and more convenient to get to.

You could see the arm strength clear as day. Except he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when I saw in those 2 days. Russell Wilson had a great deep ball, but teams held off on him.

Stroud looks shell shocked to me. His development has fallen off a cliff but with the Houston D being as good as it is he needs to do more but he cannot finish the deal. Their O-line has been shite though.

I want to believe in the Saints O-line. McCoy said he's good to go so that's big. Fixing the left guard spot with David Edwards was a nice signing. I'm not totally sold on Fuaga. I think he was playing hurt some last season but he look overwhelmed a little too much IMO. Maybe in Year 3 the light goes on?

O-line is the toughest position to develop with this current collective bargaining agreement. I've been saying that for years ( Towndrunkard style) but it's true.

His age is what makes his assessment difficult.

If he were 22, oh my. We could be looking at a Justin Herbert or Matt Stafford level player. But he was 26 when he got his first start.

His age is an advantage for looking good now, but overall he needs to make steps quicker than most QB's. He needs to be the best qb in the division by season's end.

His age and the uncertainty of the O-line. QB needs to develop but what if his O-line isn't? I think the Saints will be better this season but expecting a leap of faith. I'd love to be wrong.

He played as a top 10 quarterback the last six weeks of the season. Granted it wasn't the best competition but he didn't even become a full-time starter till a couple weeks before that. And of course Is a literal rookie and he doesn't choose his schedule.

I don’t know, but he’s the best rookie qb I have ever seen and it’s not close. My biggest knock on the coaches and many in the media was how both agreed Rattler should start. I knew he was better just by watching him in the huddle in preseason - complete calm and command. The game had somehow already slowed down for him. It was a blast to watch and agonizing waiting half the year to see if what I thought I saw was real and knowing the staff was waiting too long for any realistic playoff chances while at the same time hearing the media prop Rattler up week after week.

Above average that can get you to 12 wins a year IMO.

I agree. I think he has the potential to have an above average career but I’m thinking he may struggle more this year than he did last year. Once these NFL DC’s scheme him vs what he does/doesn’t do well, I think he’ll come back down to earth this yr but light his fire in yr 3.

Here are some stats courtesy of AI that justify some serious optimism:

5 Advanced statistics from his standout rookie campaign show that New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough was highly efficient. He ranked near the top of the league in avoiding mistakes despite working with one of the NFL's shortest average pocket times (\(1.9\) seconds) and highest receiver drop rates.Key Advanced Statistics from his First Year:Completion Rate: Posted a \(67.6\%\) completion percentage, including a \(103.3\) passer rating on third downs (leading the entire NFL).Clean Decision-Making: Registered a low turnover-worthy play rate of roughly \(1.9\%\) during his stint as a starter.

Maybe I’m wildly unrealistic, but I feel he will be a top 5 QB soon. He makes everyone around him better. This is the kind of quality Drew had too. I’m a HUGE believer of Shough. He is a leader. We got a good one y’all.
