re: Love it - Olave was worth trading up for

Sounds like we met some needs and the saints always have an ace up a sleeve in the draft. Two first rounders offensive!y this sounds good to me to support Winston
Posted on 4/28/22 at 10:23 pm to GynoSandberg
And we took him in the second round. We didn’t trade up in the first for him.
Posted on 4/28/22 at 10:26 pm to SammyTiger
But MT would have been worth it if they had.

WR is a tough spot to play as a rookie, so the way I look at it, they got the most ready to play rookie WR they could draft

Guy runs a 4.39 and is smooth as butter running routes.
And we still have fans bitching about giving up picks

But we didn’t have to.
we got desperate and instead of being smart we traded up for a guy who just wouldn’t be the #11 pick or 3rd WR off the board in almost any other draft.
“Michael Thomas didn’t have good stats” isn’t a good reason to draft guys with subpar stats. And that’s subpar for his position and value at the pick.
He’s not Jefferson, he’s not Lamb, he’s not Chase, he’s not Smith, he’s not Jeudy
I dont Think he’s as good as the Sophmore on his team last year our Boutte.

That’s impossible to know. You’re being completely irrational
Posted on 4/28/22 at 10:37 pm to WicKed WayZ
What’s not possible to know?
That we didn’t have to draft Michael Thomas in the 1st?
Or that this guy wouldn’t have been the #3 WR off the board last year?

It’s impossible to know for 100% certainty that he’s not as good as any of those guys you listed.
Your stats only argument is foolish. The number 1 pick in the draft is a DE that has 9.5 career sacks. John Metchie had better stats than Olave and he’s still on the board.

Sure he never has been better than any of those guys but maybe he will be now that he isn’t playing powerhouses like Maryland.
At least with Thomas you could say he wasn’t exactly in the best passing offense with JT Barrett and Cardale Jones.
But Olave played with Fields and Stroud. There are guys on his team who put up those numbers. Why wasn’t he?

11th pick in the whole draft. He better be that dude and fast
I don’t hate you, Les. But I am more disappointed in your intellectual dishonesty than most. Because you’re better than that. Admittedly, some is residual from the Rant the last couple days when you tried to dismiss Brennan’s accuracy based solely on his completion percentage. I’ve got no dog in the LSU QB battle this year. I assumed we recruited Daniels to start because why else would they have recruited him were it not for his ability to move and fit more into Dembrock’s system. (Truth be told, I liked Nuss’s swagger from last year and wanted him to start over Max all year. So if I’m biased, it’s probably towards him.) And I was blown away by how dynamic Daniels is with his legs—we’ve never had a QB that could run like that. But I was also very disappointed by his ability to pass—he’s terrible. So I’m torn—his legs are too big of weapons to not take advantage of somehow. But you argued Myles wasn’t accurate SOLELY based on his completion %. And you know damn good and well that’s a terrible stat to cherry pick. Of all people, you know how important YPA is. And Daniels’ may be better—I don’t know—but your completely ignoring any other numbers besides completion % was so hypocritical. You would have made fun of—no, tried to male them look simple and stupid—someone else for doing the exact same if it were an argument against “your guy.”
So I was already pit off by your intellectually dishonest hypocrisy today. (And I’m not even arguing for Brennan to start, just for logical consistency’s). But as far as tonight’s draft goes, yes, Olave was the 11th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. This was the only one that took place tonight. And you know—intellectually—that that’s all that matters. Olave may have gone 35 in next year’s draft. 22nd in last year’s. But it doesn’t matter—its all relative THIS year’s draft, which is unique from the rest. I feel like you’d have been fine of we got Olave at 16 and Penning at 19. Its not about the players with guys like you, its the perceived value based on where they were taken relative to where you think they should have been based on all the mocks you’ve read. The “best” picks are evaluated strictly on how much later they were gotten relative to where they were mocked (I.e. their value.). A guy mocked at #2 taken at #10 is a “better” pick than a guy taken 1 mocked at 1. I’m drunk, but you understand the bullshite I am calling out.

Why didn’t we take the #1 overall QB at 19? Oh because they weren’t worth the pick.
But you’re gonna try and justify Olave using the opposite logic.
It’s a wast last drafting a backup DE last year
And another C the year before.
We’ve had 1 first rounder since 2017 who starts on a good day.

Zero chance of this.
The question is whether you wanted Olave or Williams.

You have to let Les be Les. He absolutely HATES trading up. Always has. Never sees the value in it.
Posted on 4/28/22 at 10:56 pm to WicKed WayZ
I don't mind trading up but the saints keep putting themselves in these situations where they have too.

I’m convinced some of you are either just trolling or are legit stupid when it comes to what you watched unfold before your eyes during the draft.
The Falcons drafted London. The Jets then drafted Wilson. And boom, it’s on with the receivers.
I’ve seen Olave all over the place. Best WR to 3rd best, but very rarely lower than 3rd. Dude is the picture perfect compliment to MT and a huge need.
The Lions trade 20 spots to get Williams. And then veteran receivers are being traded because the league is very receiver-happy right now. Burks and Dotson were way behind the big 4 receivers in this draft and they went mid-draft.
Olave was easily gone before we picked at 16 and the Saints, for once, made a good trade to get their guy and not give up a ton.
Mission accomplished. I’m very happy we went and got our guy and didn’t just sit back and wait.

This stats argument is frickin bad bro. There is a laundry list of 1st rd busts who put up numbers. Just like there is a long list of guys who never cracked 1k in college who are studs in the pros.
And yes, his stats do not measure up to Chase Jefferson Devonta etc. You are talking about some of the best individual seasons in CFB history

Please use some context if you’re going to carry on about muh stats.
He had 50/729/7 in seven games in the covid year with Fields as a junior. That’s a 13 game pace of 93/1,354/13. Maybe using the 14 games Jefferson and Chase played will help you see clearer — 100/1,458/14
Again, 13 game pace the next year with stroud
77 receptions
1,106 yards
15 TDs
14 game pace
83 receptions
1,191 yards
17 TD
The tape is elite, the testing checks out. Stats are fun

Idk if this is even accurate. Chase had like 20 catches in 2018

I don’t know. I don’t watch every snap of Ohio States offense to see scheme and what his role is. And neither do you. Scouts and NFL front offices do though.

frick is this
How can I be hypocrisy when I never once bragged on Daniel’s being accurate?
Truth be told I don’t even want him to win the job. I would much prefer an attempt to develop Nussmeier on what will surely be a year for re-developing the program.
So your whole point is null & void big guy.
Brennan is not overly accurate. He doesn’t own any notable intangibles. He’s average to below in the short & intermediate game. He is not good enough to steal reps from guys that need playing time. Simple as that.

I’m not a mock guy. Don’t know what they are saying about Olave. Don’t read or care for them
Draft pick slots universally have value. Value that doesn’t change with the year, bubba.
If you want to talk relative to this class, Olave has to be more than just a solid WR2 in order to justify trading multiple picks to move up a few slots to take.
WR is the strong position in this draft. And if you trading valuable picks to move up to take a guy, he better be a GDCK.
That is not unfair at all if you, as a team, is putting a bullseye on this guy & going after it
