Lol what did you expect him to say? Guys this was a horrible pick by us. We screwed up. This guy isn’t worth it. Did you think he would say that? Obviously he likes the pick but only time will tell if it was right or not.

pretty much this exactly

however, unlike the Davenport disaster, we didn't overpay like a motherfricker in a weak DL class to over-value a coveted DL, so there's that

It’s the classic “I’ve never heard of him but I know they he sucks.”

no. using a very late 1st on a developmental edge is not nearly the same as trading a late 1st and another 1st to over draft a developmental edge in the middle 1st. it's not the same universe

Give him credit for gushing over the pick so convincingly after furiously trying to trade up for higher rated players all night.

The Vikings were obviously willing to trade down. We could have moved there, in front of the Pats. Mac Jones was a smoke screen. I suspect they wanted CB, but didn’t feel there was a CB worth the capital to move up for.

This is not accurate. They described Davenport for exactly what he was, physically gifted but raw, and would need time to develop. This guy they are saying is ready to play now.

They were def trying.

They try every year, as does just about every team. It's malpractice not to at least call around and ask to see what's out there. All these people running around saying the Saints were "furiously trying to trade up" don't really know anything beyond a bunch of rumors. They're taking the pre-draft story about wanting to move up to 10 and ASSUMING it's true and that it's the only thing about the Saints draft plan that matters.

As usual I know something no one else knows.

quote:

Payton says they saw a tremendous upside relative to the position with Turner. "He'll play and earn those reps his first year. We'll have a clear vision for his role."

I can see things others can’t see. Its a gift.

quote:

Sean Payton: It's hard to find those players, guys who can rush the passer, guys who have that stature.

I am going to ignore the fact that I could have gotten someone similar, maybe even this SAME guy in the second round.

In conclusion....I am really smart. Coach SP out!

Who is a sure thing at pick 28? The draft is always a crap shoot, especially later in the first round. Dude was the best player still on their board so they took him. Kid wasn't going to be there when the Saints picked again so they needed to grab him in the first

The player was told he should expect to go between pick 20 and 40. We weren't getting him with our pick in the 2nd round.

He’s got size but he’s pretty average after his initial burst off the line.

All I've seen is BYU highlights (did they p[lay anyone else? LOL).

But in those I think we have 2 of him chasing down a play from the backside and making the play. Seems like good speed.

I can't wait for him to make three plays in the pre-season and never hear his name again until week 9

They do or they don't. A #28 pick is a great spot to see if we can develop this guy.

I trust this staff...but at what point are we gona stop living off the 2017 draft

2020- Ruiz, Baun, Trautman, Stevans
2019- McCoy, Gardner Johnson, Hampton, Mack, Elliss
2018- Davenport, Smith, Leonard, Jamerson, Moore, Scott, Clapp

In the last 3 drafts id say for certain we hit on 3 picks. And im being Generous saying Trautman is a hit. He is still an unknown. Davenport and Smiths make or break year coming up.

I think its pretty fair these guys start getting questioned a bit.
