Payton has a god complex where he thinks he can always find the little school guy to come in and be the next Jerry Rice or Brian Urlacher... Ill be happy if the guy can get pressure consistently and can play a whole season.

I trust this staff...but at what point are we gona stop living off the 2017 draft
2020- Ruiz, Baun, Trautman, Stevans
2019- McCoy, Gardner Johnson, Hampton, Mack, Elliss
2018- Davenport, Smith, Leonard, Jamerson, Moore, Scott, Clapp
In the last 3 drafts id say for certain we hit on 3 picks. And im being Generous saying Trautman is a hit. He is still an unknown. Davenport and Smiths make or break year coming up.
I think its pretty fair these guys start getting questioned a bit.
To be fair you can do this for almost any team's drafts over the past years. A mix of hits, average picks, and busts.
There's a reason a 2017 draft is so special. It's very rare.

I mean that was a once in a lifetime draft, but what occurred after is commonly seen. especially considering how deep we were in more recent years. honestly complaining about late picks like 5-7th rounders is meaningless, those guys are mainly special teams or out. rarely you get a quality contributor.
quote:
2018- Davenport, Smith, Leonard, Jamerson, Moore, Scott, Clapp
Davenport - legit starter, maybe we did move up. health is the concern, on field production matches
Smith - late 3rd pick, solid #3 WR. not much quality after him
Leonard - reach, not much after him either in ol
Jamerson - late 5th, meh
moore - 6th round, meh
scott - still in the league, we just have too much depth
clapp - still in the league
quote:
2019- McCoy, Gardner Johnson, Hampton, Mack, Elliss
mccoy - puts up top 5-10 center #s
CGJ - really? he's been as solid of a nickel CB/SS hybrid as you can get (he was also a 4th rounder)
Hampton - special teams, in the league still
Mack - 7th rounder, still in the league
Elliss - shown flashes, with us still
quote:
2020- Ruiz, Baun, Trautman, Stevans
Ruiz - jury is out
Baun - same, he was a project player but he's gonna be depended on it seems
trautman - advanced metrics show he's potential to be the real deal
stevans - late round guy we tried to turn into taysom 2.0, didn't work. oh well
In regards to what you had to work with, you made the most of it. even using hindsight, you couldn't "make up a better draft". Especially if you're thinking of 2018, that draft was overall weak.
