both will be out of the league in 2-3 years... and then what?

Here’s what Pelicans executive Vice President of basketball operations David Griffin had to say on trade rumors and how he addresses them with players just now on @ESPNRadioNOLA
:

That's not a denial, it's talking around the question and telling Lonzo "don't worry about it, it just means you're special."

They help groom your young guys while they have some left in the tank. And both out of the league in 2-3 years? They won’t be starters, but they’ll be 9th-10th guys.

Yeah he's definitely not throwing cold water on the fact that they're looking at trading him which is nice.

Yeah as long as he uses it to fleece other teams in a trade and not to get our hopes up

Would fit great here

I know I'm nitpicking here, but I didn't view it that way.

I viewed it mostly as blunt truth. Yea, he did have the part about saying this means other teams covet you, that is certainly salesman like.

But given the "coach speak" type stuff we normally see, I felt that was more very direct and honest than we normally see from Execs.

Cp3 is exactly what you need.

If you put him on this team with another 3 point shooter or 2, it would be much better off

The pels aren't getting beal anyway. They need to trade for a point

I highly doubt Griff walks away feeling like a seller and has weighed his options between action and inaction.

I would like if there was a way we could get Zach Lavine. I think a Bled - Lavine - Ingram - Zion - Adams lineup could win a few games. With the thought of Kira and Alexander-Walker contributing more as the year(s) roll.

Windhorst mentioned the Bulls as a possible landing spot for Lonzo but it sounded more speculative than anything.

quote:

Brian Windhorst: One of the places that, in addition to Golden State that you could think of Lonzo, one of the places that you would think of Lonzo as a possibility and I’ve heard out there would be Chicago. If Chicago might have an interest there… But we’ll see about that

Chicago is playing with the second highest pace in the NBA this year. They should be interested in him, and i think we should try to get back Lauri.

I think the teams that should be interested in Lonzo are Chicago, Denver, and Portland, and i think we can get back a decent return from all 3.

While I agree, Lauri presents the same problem as Lonzo. He's a free agent this offseason and will want to be paid. Would we want to pay him, as a 3rd big (sometimes even 4th depending upon matchups and the development of Hayes)?

Why would they trade a guy averaging 20 ppg on 50/40 shooting for lonzo ball on his last year of his contract?

Lauri is also in his last year and there is some talk of the Bulls moving him. It would be teams trading players with different skillsets to see if they would re-sign them because they aren't going to re-sign their own guy.

I think the Pels would have to attach extra value.

Also, the Lauri fit would be...interesting. Bring him in off the bench in a heightened Melli role? Play Zion more at 3 and small ball 5? I don't know.

I'd take any of Markkanen, Colby White, or Lavine for Lonzo/ Mellil

I'm sure you would but those guys aren't going to be on the table for Lonzo and Melli
