On the Jump today:

quote:

"Yes and not just those two guys. Eric Bledsoe has also been involved in trade talks, and in a lot of cases, it's the Pelicans making the calls. There's interest there to move out some of the veteran guards to make from for Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis, their first round draft pick, to get those guys some playing time. The Pelicans are going to be making some changes, I believe."

Stating a lot of obvious but Windhorst has gotten some minor info from Griffin in the past.

The leaks we're seeing definitely point to the Pels trying to create a market. Especially considering the date, it looks like he's hoping for a February 6thish trade. It will be interesting to see what he ends up doing here where the leverage really should be limited vs. the Jrue and AD trades.

Aka, don't expect anything of value out of the deals made except maybe some trade exceptions and lower picks.

I still think Boston should be all over Bledsoe, he fits perfectly into their TPE, and only has them 400k over the tax. They need insurance for Walker in the playoffs.

I love the idea of Bledsoe but he can go as well. We need to make changes at both starting guard positions. Hopefully, we can free up PT for NAW and Kira and get some smart shooters for Ball, Bledsoe, and/or JJ.

Yeah, he is definitely trying to get a market going. I'm sure all of the teams know this, but deals tend to happen.

Our leverage does suck, but honestly our leverage sucked in the AD trade too, since he and Rich Paul did everything short of tell other teams they were going to murder the entire family of any GM that traded for him besides the Lakers.

I think at least 2 of the 3 get moved.

Being honest myself like most on here don't care what we get for Lonzo. Because him being traded free up time for NAW and Kira and guarantees we will not resign him in the off season. The peace of mind of that is return enough.

Players on rookie contracts, 2nd round picks, late 1st round picks, TPE created, whatever. No long term big deals.

All I really care about.

I’m curious about what teams would be able to take on Bledsoe without sending long term salary back.

For me, it would have to be expiring players with picks attached.

I think Bledsoe will be a tougher sell to a lot of teams. His contract is much more movable next year.

The only thing that worries about deciding to go full rebuild now is that we're already a year into Zion's 7-8 year cycle before he has the leverage to leave.

Meaning, we have to accelerate things by a year and basically show that we have a consistent winner by year 4 or 5 if we don't want a repeat of CP and AD.

Which is why it’s odd that he’s being brought up right now. It seems like it would be more beneficial to both parties to make a deal next year when you can use his salary to acquire someone else.

What I would say is, it is better for us to do things NOW when we have a few years then to keep going with something that's not working, and have to go rebuild in 3 years.

Get it out of the way now. Go full on rebuild and you have the next 3-4 years to get it right.

No, I agree with the premise, it's just that there is even less room for error when it comes to making these. We really should've parted with Jrue the same offseason that we traded AD.

We don't need to go "full rebuild", we just need to get playing time for the players we've drafted. I think Griff has proven one thing he can do is convince/trade for useful vets when the time comes.

You're not wrong, and it is a concern but we aren't winning this year any way, so I do think it's better to learn what we have in NAW and Kira sooner rather than later.

I know Jax has his ups and downs but as long as he keeps playing well enough like he has lately, I hope we can bump his minutes up just a bit more to 20+ per game as well for the same reason.

I mean whatever you call it, we're in the gathering assets process right now, we just have to accelerate the process in turning those assets into pieces to keep Zion and Ingram happy.

Would've been better if we went all-in a year ago by parting with Jrue.

I think the biggest mistake we made (and I kind of get why we did it) was parting with AD but striking on the Zion-mania by still trying to compete last season.

I don't feel like I'm saying this just because we're hearing the Pels want a "significant return" as that means nothing.

But for some reason I just have this feeling that we'll be pleasantly surprised in what we get for Ball. I think most of us agree just getting him off the team for anything is a plus, but I just think there will be 1 team out there that thinks they can fix him. All it takes is one, and I think we'll get a little something back that we didn't think we could.

Here's to hoping it plays out that way!

For sure. Like I said in another thread, you need to find out quickly if Kira is the guard you need to make this team hum and if he's not you need to trade for that player. Finding your lead guard is the top priority, everything else just fills in the gaps.

This draft appears to have a plethora of PGs to me.
