Yes, it goes back to even hiring Joe. They did not do any process. They didn't do a search, hire a search firm, interview multiple candidates, anything like that. It often leads to teams considering view points and people they wouldn't expect.
They did nothing. They hired their friend and did no process
And they haven't done a process since

The board just hates the “process.” At the end of the day it’s a ball being put into a hoop. It’s all about luck or being a big market team.

Certainly there is luck involved, and being a big market is a massive, massive leg up.
But having the right processes and sticking to them allows you to turn one lucky event into multiple "lucky" events and you win.

-We got lucky when we got AD, got rondo, Jrue, and Boogie. Boogie tears his Achilles then that completely derails the plan. AD then requests a trade before the beginning of the next season.
- you get lucky again with Zion but uh yeah we didn’t expect him to not take his job serious. Even then there was a point we had Dejounte, CJ, Herb, Ingram, Zion, Trey all on the same team.
-In the pels case even when they get something good going something details it.
- it ain’t like the Saints where they can utilize the draft, free agency, and trades to improve. The pels are handicapped. That’s why I don’t get the hoopla of DJ’s contract. We’re not signing anyone of significance. Our biggest modern signings were Solomon Hill and Etwaun Moore, and Julius Randle for a year.

If this was a one off mistake then I would agree it’s not a big deal and people here are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
However, this is another mistake in a list of poor process and decision making dating back to when Dumars was hired.
This is a clear pattern at this point which is what’s concerning and has everyone bitching

On Dumars mainly doing good things?
Queen= good
Fears = good
Bey= good
Zion= played 62 games instead of 20-40.
I'm sorry are we NOW arguing that the result matters and the process doesn't? Ironic.
Dumars gets no credit for a shitty process with a good result and now he gets no credit for a good process with shitty results? And everything is a negative? Just sounds like Dumars doesn't get credit for anything unless its negative.
1. No players requesting a trade
2. Players look healthier than previous year
Does anyone actually think we went backwards, got worse, or lost assets? We retained everyone important, added Fears/ Queen, and flipped an undrafted player for assets.
Adding (3) franchise starters in (1) offseason + trading an undrafted player for 2 picks + retaining all major assets might be the best offseason in Pelicans history. That really isn't an exaggeration, its a sad truth but not really exaggerated.
