1-3 mil may matter for teams managing big contracts for star players, not us. Not yet with Fears and Queen on rookie deals.
There are negotiations that are possible where Pels ask
"We dont want you talking to other teams, what would make you say yes right now"
They offer the deal Pels accept that we know about
Internally Pels say: frick it we see the impact he had on Queen, building him is more important than winning next year by signing a rotation player with minimal impact on winning, get him in and let's use next years lottery to add. We're 4-5 years away anyways.
Other pels staff: some cap nerds and boot krewe are going to bitch to high heaven about this.

Yikes. That's a front office fail. How do you not know the veteran minimum subsidy rules? Two years of dead cap for a 38 year old center. Someone's getting fired over this.

All od this back and forth, then we get the reason behind the signing..
Jordan had a one year deal to sign with someone else, a contender. To keep him, we had to give him another year. That's why we did the deal.
So it's either give him the deal or he walks. We didn't "mess up". It was a choice. Agree with it or not, that's how it happened. Personally, I don't care that much. But I'm glad he's with the team. I like him, and he seems like a great influence on the team.

It's fine, if so. But if you wanted to keep him, it took an extra year to get it done.
The Poole and Hawkins deals are horrible. But now we are standing on two expiring deals worth 40M. That might be worth quite a bit at the deadline..

What if another team offered him the minimum, like Charlotte.
I would take that over our situation.
However, we don't know. We just assume bad decisions are bad decisions - but may have had to guarantee a 2nd year so he stays.

It was confirmed he had another offer, one year vet deal, by another team. Supposedly it was a better team. To keep him, we offered the 2nd year. That's why he resigned with us.

So the Pelicans say. No way to know if that is true or not, and even if it is, we are talking about a 37 year old minimum player.
The amount of attention we are giving to the signing of a minimum player says a lot about the current state of the franchise, doesn't it?

Not a big deal in a vacuum. If we don't do the Hawkins option or have Poole on the books right now, this is a non-conversation...but when you basically no room for error you can't miss on a single deal. And, frankly, this is a miss as it pertains to the sum of the parts.

Poole is really the only obvious mistake imo.
Im also a staunch believer that in sports that the results justify the means. So im more forgiving on the queen trade, as it seems it will play out fine for us, great for us is even in the cards still.
This dj thing, seems like we dont really know if its intentional or not. Seems like peolle jumping on something when we dont really know. A lot of people want to just pile on this fo without all the facts. However I dont really feel bad for the FO because they are unavailable to an insane degree. You thought Langdon was invisible? This fo watches the games in a suite with the lights turned off oftentimes. You act like that? You deserve this uninformed heat.
