Good thing SVG isn't a garbage coach then.

Could see Darvin Hamm as another potential finalist. I wouldn’t melt with SVG. Could be content depending on the assistants he may bring.

Like others have said I’d prefer him over Lue

Yeah I can understand people being down on Kidd or even Lue, but SVG is a pretty good coach.

He won’t be the POBO like he also was in Detroit.

Players really like him, the media likes him, and he’s pretty damn entertaining.

its just meh....he doesn't suck but you know what you're getting with him. I don't understand the NBA's love affair with retreads

Give me Kidd over him

Let the downvotes commence

If only I had more than one to give. The issue with Stan isn't his coaching, it was allowing him to be GM.

Yes I would prefer a new young coach. All fans prefer the unknown over the known. As do I.

But it’s very clear that Griffin is hellbent on a retread.

And if we are going retread, we could do a LOT worse than SVG.

JJ’s stories about SVG are great.

He also gives him a lot of credit for making him the professional player that he is today.

quote:

with Van Gundy and J.J. Redick, that respect is certainly mutual.

“I think just in terms of intangibles and characteristics I think any NBA player should have, I think he taught me those things and he reinforced those things in me — professionalism, accountability, playing sort of hard and the same way every game, not taking any nights off, all that stuff, because he lives that,” Redick said. “I see how hard he works, how much he invests in his craft, and so as a player, playing for him, you really have no choice but to do the same.”

...In addition to reinforcing the idea that self accountability was a necessary trait, on the court, Van Gundy helped shape Redick into a valuable defender despite athletic limitations that keep him from being a 1-on-1 stopper.

“Pretty much any sort of team defense concept that’s pertinent to modern NBA basketball, I learned from Stan,” Redick said.

Anybody that has talked about wanting Heat culture here should not dismiss this just because he failed in Detroit. Stan was an assistant under Pat Riley for 8 years before becoming the Heat head coach for 3. Hard work and accountability are core philosophies of his. Bring in assistants to add the Xs and Os wizardry, we want a head coach preaching hard work and toughness like Gentry preached pace. I believe Stan can do that.

FYI:

Windhorst said on the Jump today before this report came out to watch our for Jamahl Mosley and Stan Van Gundy.

So we likely know 3 of the 4:

Lue
SVG
Mosley

Windhorst has legit contacts with Griffin.

I'd be happy with SVG.

He's a very smart basketball guy and was a winner every year of career when he wasn't doubling as Coach/GM.

I can confirm that Billy Ray Cyrus will NOT be a candidate for the Pels job. He is currently talking to other teams and evaluating options elsewhere.

So Lue and SVG are confirmed.

The only other 2 rumors we heard were Windhorst about Mosley and Miamibeat about Craig

Craig
SVG
Mosley
Lue

Seems to make sense. I personally hope we go with Craig or Mosley if true.

I think we can confirm Mosley. Windhorst seems to have had info on us since Griffin took over.

Won't follow the team if they hire the lib but says nothing about them potentially hiring a wife beater.

99% of athletes/coaches are all liberals (not sure why)

If he can actually be a coach and representative of the team while keeping his political views aside and not trying to ram them down every fans throat everytime you try to watch a press conference, then great.

I don't see him being able to do that though

Are the Pelicans trying to actively tank the next 3 seasons?
