All this time and we end up with Ron Jeremy as our potential coach?

re: SVG Meeting with Pels
I lurk but never post here, but will offer my two cents. What I would like in a coach is attention to detail and relentless preparation which in turn are keys to accountability in a system and long term plan. I think those are keys to development of a young roster and it felt like those are areas that were lacking with the Pelicans in the past. I think SVG checks those boxes and I was impressed with SVG in Orlando. Admittedly I did not follow his tenure in Det and I am probably influenced by JJ’s recent comments. That said, he is a name that has intrigued me and feels like a good fit for the current situation in NOLA.

SVG’s politics resonates with his players.

Athletes are extremely low informed voters. Useful idiots is a good description. Everybody wants to be with the in crowd. Since Hollywood are full of wacko liberals, athletes cling to that. Ask them why they would vote democrat and none of them could give a legitimate policy answer.

I don’t care who the coach supports politically or sleeps with. I just don’t want to hear about because it’s not relevant to why I would be watching or following the team. I am not talking about social justice issues either, just politics.

I’d just prefer not even know what my HC’s political persuasion is. Ever.

Those days are long behind us. More and more athletes and coaches are become outspoken on their political beliefs. It is what it is. Doesn’t change the game, and you can choose to ignore it.

I want us to just all be in the camp of being ok with our differences.

Them days seem far past us now. You have crazies on the right, who shite on Obama for 8 years, and complained about how this country sucks, then now are telling anyone who says a bad word about Trump that they should leave the country because they hate this country. Their fricking motto was a complaint about how America sucked.

And the crazies on the left are responsible for cancel culture, which, what more needs to be said there.

One side is doing bad shite thinking they are doing good, the other side is being manipulated with scare tactics by politicians and news programs. And social media has given a louder voice to all of these lunatics.

This thread has people whining about a liberal coach, then claiming it’s the other side that’s crazy. Most of this site has turned into lunatics losing their shite over liberals, then saying it’s the other side that’s crazy.

re: SVG Meeting with Pels
Within 24 hours SVG has become my number one choice for job, of the guys that seem to be options.

My ideal scenario at this point would be SVG as the HC, Weaver as the OC, and Mosley as the DC. Though, its probably unlikely Mosley leaves Dallas for a lateral move.

Stan probably brings in one or two of his guys, and I still feel like Griffin's gonna bring in a connection from his Phoenix or Cleveland days. Some recently retired player, imo.

Mosley isn't leaving for a lateral move.

And Stan would definitely bring in some guys he has connections to, maybe even a former player.

We use sports as an escape from things like politics. When politics gets injected where it doesn’t need to be, it is annoying.

It may be interpreted by some as simply neutral displays of national unity and respect, but politics has been firmly embedded in American domestic sports for a 100 years now.

The introduction of the national anthem in sporting events during WWI to promote the war effort, when the country was split on participation and sour on the draft. The mandate it be played at every football event during WWII to stoke and promote national loyalty and morale. The increase in flyovers and military pageantry following 9/11 and into the Iraq war, that increased spectacle(occasionally justified by the military as a recruitment tool), the endless “patriotic” rhetoric at such events that launders complex American foreign policy as being about “fighting for freedom and our way of life,” that frames America as uniquely exceptional and reinforces that cultural identity. That’s all politically rooted. That all has political purpose and agency. Even if its marketed as neutral by its purveyors, even if it’s loyal adherents don’t recognize it.

Just because you and others never once questioned, or had the mind to question, the reason and motive for certain iterations and usage of pageantry and idolatry in this nation so as to just see it as “normal, neutral, the default” doesn’t actually make it non-political. And so, I hate to break it to you, but what it amounts to in that context is in fact people choosing what politics they want on display and what ones they don’t. That is unless your position is to do like most other sports in most other countries in the world, and leave out the organized patriotism and chauvinistic displays altogether, and just play the game...

I think the right answer would be does Finch go to the Pacers and kill it better than the guy we choose?

Because truth be told there are a lot of good prospects out there. I’m honestly not the biggest SVG fan, but my judgement will be about whether we hired the better coach. If Finch kills it in Indiana, but our choice gets us to the championship, I’m ok with that outcome.

re: SVG Meeting with Pels
I've questioned the playing of the National Anthem for many years, on TD. I don't think sporting events should and think its weird.

I mean what I say, I want as close to virtually no politics intermingled with sports as possible.

The exception being the Olympics which is going to have some inherent degree of politics to it.

re: SVG Meeting with Pels

99% of athletes/coaches are all liberals (not sure why)

It's not complicated. Most players are black. Most blacks are democrats.

Most coaches have college degrees. Most people with college degrees are liberal.

LINK /
There continue to be large gaps in candidate preference by education. As in 2016, those with a college degree or more are more likely to support the Democratic candidate over Trump. Today, those with no college degree are slightly more divided: 47% say they would vote for Trump if the election were held today, while 46% say they would vote for Biden.

re: SVG Meeting with Pels
Fair enough. For the record that part was meant as a broad statement, wasn’t meaning to just single you out or anything. But I assumed wrong there. As that is typically how this debate plays out. People want to keep the aggressive organized patriotism before and within sections of the games, but remove the ability for players to make alternative statements....Or we’ll cancel you lol.

When it’s good to step back and realize this stuff didn’t just materialize and perpetuate because god came down and said the righteous will display flags of America at all sports events, sing songs of its greatness, and routinely speak in specific language of its supposed exceptionalism before and during all events, it became a thing because of politics and it continued to be a thing because of politics and money. Largely money.

And deviations that germinate in response to that pageantry are political because they respond to and bounce off a politically motivated and rooted display. And those deviations can’t exist or make proper sense without the other.

What are your guesses on who he would bring in?

What's the word with Atkinson?
