FWIW on NBA Radio they just said belief around New Orleans is even though he's looking around, Tye Lue is coming to the Pels.

Yeah Windhorst flat out said yesterday we are waiting on Lue.

Cassel interviewed with the Clippers at length yesterday, so they may go with Sam instead of Ty.

Then it comes down to Houston vs Us in the Lue..."sweepstakes".

Fun fact: Ty Lue and Jason Kidd will be my two melt exceptions.

They announce either as HC and I’ll probably lose it at this point. At least knowing that we have more proven, and more potential candidates than Lue lined up ready to take the job like SVG.

I'm not a huge fan of Lue but I don't think he is melt worthy.

He's more "meh, prove it" worthy.

Kidd is melt worthy though.

To me it says volumes that Lue keeps getting passed over by other organizations, including a strong skepticism by the one he just worked for. Either because he is demanding more than teams think he is worth, or they are straight up taking other coaches despite him being the hot name this offseason.

The word on the street is that his contract demands are VERY high, leaving a lot of teams that really want him on the fence.

He wasn’t for me before, but now knowing that we are in fact interviewing so many people, including some really good coaches that are seemingly ready to sign the ink like SVG, it has adjusted me a good bit.

I didn’t want Lue but if it was basically Griffin so blown away that he wanted Lue and no one else, that he wasn’t casting this wide net and seemingly signaling he has his own reservations, that enthusiasm would make me give it a shot, but he basically speed dialed Doc and is seemingly up in the air over several candidates. Which tells me Lue is not some savant in his eyes, and compound that with my own reservations I really don’t want Lue.

So a top heavy team with zero depth was not very good without their best player?

Color me shocked.

Houston shouldn't be a factor. They belive Houston ends up going cheap with a first time coach, as their organizational financial stability is up in the air right now.

I mean they still had Kyrie and K Love playing. You know they wouldn’t be good w/o Lebron but 1-17 bad?

Clippers are interviewing Sam Cassell today. Looking at the list of who the Clippers have interviewed, I have to think it's Cassell or Lue.

quote:

Cassell is the second Clippers assistant to have interviewed for the team’s coaching vacancy so far, joining Tyronn Lue. The club has also reportedly met with Mike Brown, Darvin Ham, and Wes Unseld Jr. and is said to have interest in Jeff Van Gundy. It’s not clear how many other candidates the Clippers may interview before making a decision.

I can't imagine them going with a first time head coach with so much on the line unless it was someone like Cassell who's already there and so they have a better read on his fit with the team.

Well 6 of those were the year after Lebron left and they had the worst roster in the NBA (it was bad), so I don't count those.

The others I would have to research more, what team did they play? Was it B2B where they were resting alot of players?

Jake:

Out of the 4 coaches we know we have either interviewed or are finalists (SVG, Lue, Weaver, Mosley)

Who is your preference?

I've said that I think this is a good time to be in the market for a head coach so, honestly, I don't think you could really go wrong.

Probably Lue, SVG, Weaver, Mosley.

The players really didn't respond to Gentry, if Lue can get LeBron to buy in and all that comes with that I trust he'd be able to do that here.

Similar for SVG. Just a smart dude who has done well overall as a head coach. Having a personality like that is also really, really nice to cover.

Weaver can probably get there eventually, but more time in the NBA would probably get him there.

Mosley I know the least about so I rank him last.

Any chance any of those coaches would accept Weaver as their lead assistant?
