That wasn’t Ferry, that was Griffin.

Any screwups Ferry made in Atlanta can be balanced against the utter clusterfrick that ownership was under the Atlanta Spirit group.

Sounds like they want to play it safe which is understandable. A lot is on the line here.

I guess we would of loved Ferry if he was not affiliated with the team. Either way, it seems like Ferry was could have been the plan all along. The Pelicans had their guy from day 1.

Zarren and Hinkie weren't on the leaked list. So if you limit it to experienced execs that's what, just Ferry and Griffin? If that's the choice I pick Ferry, but I really want to pair him with Langdon.

Ferry was the Cavs GM in Lebron's first stint there.

...when Mo Williams was the best player Lebron ever played with. Makes Demps look like Jerry West.

You and a couple others really got me digging more into Griffin. I really liked him after hearing him analyze a lot of what’s going on, really liked his takes. But my opinion has definitely swayed, especially with the Bennett pick and how he sold everyone on it. People can complain about inflated contracts, but that was nearly every team at the time. Him really like Bennett despite his obvious laziness isn’t a good look.

Ferry is probably fine. It just feels so boring on top of how disappointing this season has been.

Langdon would excite me because it feels fresh.

From what most are hearing, it is Ferry's job to lose. Remember, the list from the consultant was full of guys he thought the Pels should pursue. Not necessarily guys who want this job desperately.

But May 14th could change that, so I ask again: Why not wait? I mean, worst case scenario is you don't do well in lottery, Knicks don't get a top 2 pick, etc and you just hire Ferry any way.

But what do I know, I am just an idiot blogger.

Fans focus on the GM, but its about the entirety of the front office. No one man single handedly moves mountains. No matter who the guy at the top was, it is going to come down to how much the team approves to spend on staff, G League development, etc.

The best front offices have a dozen guys who could all give input into direction of the team, analytics, etc. They have great scouting staffs domestically and internationally. They have brilliant cap guys, etc etc. One guy gets the credit or blame, but its really about the staff and structure. That will be the true test to see how committed Gayle is to the franchise. There is no salary cap for your front office, your G League and scouting spending, etc.

On top of that they've been profitable for a while and should be quite profitable over the next few years when they'll be well below the tax line. Forbes showed last year's operating income for the Pels as $29 million. LINK

From Shamit on Twitter. Looks like Ferry had guarantees from Hawks ownership in his last contract on amounts they would invest into the D-League and facilities. Would be encouraging if he did the same here.

Ferry also doesn't have that leverage today.

But if I'm ranking, I'd probably have Gersson as 1A and Ferry as 1B(I reserve the right to change this ranking as new info comes in).

My big issue with Ferry, and partially why he is 1B(along with other reasons I could go into), is that he has objectively been away from the game for a good minute. If reports of his minimal participation as a special adviser are true, he basically sat out the last half decade. Whereas a guy like Gersson is hungry, has active pipelines to pull from to fill out his staff, and has been the right hand man on the forefront of a cutting edge successful NBA franchise.

And I think one has to ask, if you are objectively weighing the candidates assuming Ferry never stepped foot in this franchise, and instead was a minimal special adviser to, say, Minnesota or Washington, teams in similar situations, would you put him at number 1?

Ferry would be my last choice. Although it seems like Zarren declined to even interview. Re: Fans focusing on one man. Eh... if you aren't wild about the GM then you probably arne't wild about the people he would bring in, either.

If the question is: who would I entrust to hire the best staff then Ferry would not be near the top of that list.

How dare you talk about an one time all star He also orchestrated an aging Shaq trade, who was still pretty useful during his time as a Cav.

If Ferry is hired, then that is the kind of guys he will be bringing here. So, you better get used to it. Players that fit certain styles of play or positions on the court - flash in the pan type of players. Because Nola is not attractive to the Superstars of the NBA.

In your opinion, why is it Ferry's job to lose? Do you think it is simply familiarity? Is Silver pushing him for some reason. Is it a risk-averse attitude of upper management?

I am with you 100% on waiting until May 14 to see if that opens up interest with other candidates.

I've never melted about this, that's in your head.

I've repeatedly said, again and again, that I would give whomever is hired a chance, at least 3 years, to see what they can do.

I've also said that I think Ferry is a smart guy and could do a good job, its just a lazy hire and would prefer, if all things are equal, someone outside the organization for a fresh perspective.

I've literally said those things in this thread.
