It sounds like Tim Connelly is taking the Wizards job. That leaves what the Suns and now Nuggets having openings. There’s a very good chance that guy (Sheppard) is not getting a GM job and he’s probably not going to stay in DC so he’s needs to get a #2 job somewhere. Now i doubt we get a legit experienced assistant GM like him but is that that crazy?
Posted on 4/5/19 at 11:59 am to Pelibeast
Well you listed him as a senior adviser which would put him above the potential hire, which would be insane.

Connelly was speculated once. Because of his DC familiarity.
It is doubtful that he will take that job. Believe me.

Chris Sheridian tweeted that word on the street was that Connelly was going to get the DC job. I don't see why the Nuggets would let him go if it is just money and Denver is set up for a while now.

I meant senior advisor or consultant to the GM or assistant GM whatever you want to call him. Yes in no way do i want to be at the top.

I hope they can keep Ferry as a senior advisor. If not and they hire Langdon, they need to bring in one of the older guys as a senior advisor like Bucks - Rod Thorn, Hawks - Rick Sund, Raptors - Wayne Embry...etc.
I think this is prob the best idea. I really like what I read about Langdon and he is my top choice. Experience factor as the head of everything is my only concern with him. But if you keep Ferry around, who seems to have had a positive impact on Pels decision making since he got brought in, it could be the best of both worlds with those 2.

There's so much synergy there. Both played at Duke. Both come from the Spurs organization. IF Ferry couldn't steal Bud from the Spurs, rumors had him meeting with and trying to bring over Ettore Messina from Moscow who Langdon played under for several seasons.

quote:Can't see why Connelly would leave what he is building in Denver to go to a tough situation like the Wizards. That would make no sense (and makes me wonder why Connelly was not on our list, especially given his previous stint here). If Denver were to open up, I would think the top candidates would chose that opening over the Pelicans.

Sheridan is not the best NBA source...
He build that organisation and has full support of Kroenke.
Jokic is close to superstardome.

Even though Connelly just signed an extension, this interest from Washington should get him a raise. That's probably all the leak is about, money.

every candidate has negatives. but stating he did a terrible job on the Cleveland Finals teams is absurd.
you have a shot with prime LeBron to win a title, you do everything you can to maximize that chance. cap rules are a bitch, so frick the future.
Gilbert was willing to spend, Griffin built a team that won a title. we should all hope the Pels get into that position and go for it the way Cleveland did.
those mediocre players won a title. went to 4 straight Finals. they're bottoming out after LeBron. so what if their cap sheet sucks for a year or two? they won a title. forest for the trees

yeah b/c Griffin did whatever Lebron told him to do, no matter how stupid of a decision it was, like handing out all that money to mediocre players.

New Duncan article selling the case for Danny Ferry. Interesting nugget:
Making the case for Danny Ferry
quote:
I don’t know if Danny Ferry is going to be the next general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans have an impressive list of finalists for the position, and I hear Houston Rockets assistant GM Gersson Rosas made a favorable impression during his interview.

I like Ferry but him being an insider with the organization makes him less attractive than someone like Rosas who can say “I want X or I won’t take the job.”

Sigh.
I think this means the Pels want to hire him but want to sell it to people first.

Korver comes out with a piece about racism and now we hire a racist. Good look Gayle

Thats about as fluffy as a fluff piece gets.
I was almost expecting to read "I'm Danny Ferry and I approved this message," at the end.
Definitely felt like he was greasing this skids for the Pelicans. A lot of, "prepare yourselves for this blah arse hire," in there.

Now both Fletcher and Duncan are singing Ferry's praises. Could this be a not so subtle planted message from upper management to prepare the fans for a Ferry hire?

This was something I didn't know:
Pels are leveraging their relationship with Silver in the hiring/rebuild process. Still wish we could get a Ferry/Langdon combo, but this piece from Duncan screams that they want to hire Ferry, but are unsure of the fallout.

There’s a lot to like about Ferry, including the fact that he has the endorsement of NBA executives, including Commissioner Adam Silver.

Duncan's on twitter with the cape on,
We'll just ignore the entire Cleveland portion of his resume, when he put those embarrassing teams around Lebron.
Demps got fired for blowing Anthony Davis' tenure. Danny Ferry did the same with Lebron fricking James.

His track record speaks for itself. There’s a reason Adam Silver and NBA officials are endorsing him.

It’s definitely a trial balloon.
Look. I like Ferry. I think he’s a pretty sharp guy and he could do a good job I think.
I just really really wanted someone that was a total outsider to this org that could call them on their shite and implement wholesale changes from top to bottom. A fresh perspective and way of doing things.
As with anything time will tell. But it just comes across as a complacent, lazy hire.
