Naji is a full effort guy. I’ve always liked him.

My scenario? I am not the one trying to trade Herb

I’m not sure why we keep putting Dyson and Herb against each other like we can only keep one. When the time comes it’s likely that other people on the team will be moved. That’s part of the reasoning behind paying Herb this season, to give a little breathing room in the future.

I think we are building a log jam at the 2 and 3. BI, Trey, Herb, Dyson. That doesn’t even include CJ playing off the ball at times.

Once Trey gets his bag what do you do? It seems like you would almost have to move BI to make the minutes and dollars work.

CJ is the one that you move for money reasons. Most of us have assumed any long term future he had on the team was as a sixth man. Hawkins potentially can fill that role now.

CJ and Nance will be gone. That should always have been the plan.

In a year or two, how many teams are going to be taking on salary dumps like CJ would be at that point?

Don't care if you have to use assets to dump him, you do whatever it takes to keep your key guys.

I agree about keeping key guys. The issue is too many of our key guys play only two spots while other than Zion we project to have relatively few dollars invested in 4’s and 5’s

Is Trey really going to resign to still be a sixth man? CJ being gone doesn’t clean that up.

Herb has much more in his offensive arsenal than he is given credit for. But when he’s simply playing off ball of Ingram, CJ and Zion, it tends to marginalize his touches and Rhythm and makes him have to rely on his biggest weakness (outside shooting).

Bingo...for reasons, imo, too complex to go into...when Herb first started playing basketball, his game was very odd in that he almost totally concentrated on the defensive side of the game. Exact opposite of what most youngsters his age do. Result? A totally stunted offensive game...I've often said Herb, in college, couldn't walk & chew gum, offensively...but still, would one day play in the NBA.

You're right...there's actually a multi-faceted offensive game hidden under there somewhere...and it's far more than most realize, waiting to mature. You would not believe just how far he has come in the past coupla years. I think the Pels FO has figured this out...it is NOT an easy thing to see.

Sorry for the length.

He won't have much of a choice since he'll be restricted. He'll get his minutes and he'll get paid regardless if he starts or not. They can worry about the logjam and figure it out.

Are you family or friends with Herb and/or his family?

It would explain so much lol.

CJ will be moved for even larger salary imo so that won’t be totally relevant.

The other option is to dump his salary for an expiring early, if we want to retain all of our young core.

So we have flexibility in that, but I can assure you, unless some of these guys start taking huge steps back we will be trying to lock them up on cheaper deals rather than let it play out and have them on bigger deals because we kept CJ a year or 2 longer than we should have.

I don't think we are ready to do that right now due to Zion's uncertainty. For all we know, Zion could be the one they ship out of he can't put it all together and stay healthy. Lots of questions that can't be answered until we have a better idea how to move forward in the future.

Dumping CJ would have to happen between this upcoming trade deadline, and the trade deadline the season after. He'll still be a valuable piece for a team making a push.

If you wait beyond the 2025 trade deadline then you will likely have to package some good assets.

That goes under the taking huge steps back part I said. If Zion doesn't play this year, the plan on him HAS to change at that point.

Just watched the guy play kinda early on...and thought I saw some things that others didn't see. Nothing more...nothing less. Maybe I'll be right...maybe not. We'll see. (BTW: I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few years ago...if that helps)

Is it hidden so deep we will have to hire The Boring Company to find it
