The first would be for sending out temple and getting Bey back, JV for Capela is a wash.

Also would have ti have protections on the pick, top 10 maybe?

Should be an easier ask if Barrego’s offensive system is as advertised. More off ball picks and cuts no longer require players sitting in the corner and wings as a 3 pt outlet (requiring a Center with above average efficiency beyond the arc) for spacing. You can now play a defensive minded 5 that not only rim protects but is also good on the defensive perimeter. Those type players are more available and cheaper than rim protectors who are also marksmen beyond the arc.

Griffin approach will be interesting. He pretty much confirms they'll be out hunting for a rim protector but doesn't sound confident they'll be able to get one.

We're more likely going to have to rely on a combination of players and settle on a guy like Eubanks.

eubanks would be a great get. I dont want capela. He's been declining the past couple years and makes 42m the next 2 years

I don't believe that he's in much of a decline. I think it's more about his surrounding cast. In any case, he's still a huge upgrade from Valanciunas.

And Eubanks isn't any better than Billy. He's a terrible plan.

Rim protection would be good, but absolutely the player needs to be able to move their feet on the perimeter. Pick n Roll has killed the Pels the last four years. Again without requiring a 3 point marksman at the Pivot you have a number of less expensive players they could bring in. R. Williams, Gafford. Isaac, Z. Collins, Biyambo, Koloko, I Stewart; or rent with a premium for Ayton, Lopez, Allen, Portis, Capela, Horford, Turner. In any option I’d hold on to Hayes. Board dislikes him but big fella has demonstrated he can move his feet on the perimeter with a 7’6” wingspan.

know we’d get Bey in this scenario but still would be frustrating.

Bey is rather complete on offense as a forward. he's only 6 8".

this thread was rim protector and pg.

what does bey have to do with this?

Is it his system or Jay Triano’s?

Does it really matter? We don't need an offensive genius as much as we need someone that will protect Willie from himself.

Most of the coaching issues that cost the teams games last year came from Willie leaning too far into defense. Having an offensive coach that Willie respects will hopefully allow Willie to be more balanced in his approach.

that's what i would like to see.

If you can get Eubanks or Mo Wagner, do that.
Send JV/Kira to the Spurs for Zach Collins and some 2nds, which will free up some space under the tax to sign Eubanks or Wagner with the MLE. I'm pretty sure that BI was working out with Mo Wagner this summer.
Send Billy and some 2nds to Toronto for Koloko.

I'd rather Eubanks/Wagner, Collins, Koloko than JV, and i do love me some JV.

That would give us
Zion/Trey/Liddell to play the 4.
Wagner, Collins, Nance, Koloko at the 5. The question you have to ask is can any of them be decent enough against Jokic, b/c that's who you have to be able to beat for the foreseeable future. Don't care about any of their offensive skill sets from that 5 position, just hustle, finish at the rim, play good D, make free throws. Wagner is an 82% free throw shooter, Collins is 75%.

We also will be well under the tax after signing everyone, even with GT still on the roster, even if we gave Wagner $8-10M/yr

Yeah, Bunch. I think we’d regret giving up JV to get Capela. In the past,I’ve mentioned the offensive possessions salvaged by Jonas.

Oh for sure, Offense has been D’Antoni’s implemented by Hill. High pick action with floor spacers. Does not take advantage of Pels having multiple players who can handle the ball… BI, Zion, CJ, Herb, Naji, Dyson, and Jose.

Should be way less predictable (keeping BI and Zion from being pounded) and in a better position to take advantage (offensively) of Pels athleticism for easier looks.

For reference, Mavs and hawks supposedly discussed Capella. They would have swapped 10 for 15. Hawks wanted Green or Hardy and Mavs balked. At least if you are to believe reports. Not sure if Bertans or some other contract was to be involved.

I know Jonas does some good stuff. He can score the ball from the post, hit some threes every now and then, dominate certain teams, and saves us some offensive possessions. He is also a great rebounder and most importantly he is available. But. His defense, and PnR defense specifically, outweighs all the good things he does imo. At the end of games putting Jonas in a PnR is like the other team being able to hit an automatic score button, which makes him unplayable at the end of games. If he is struggling on offense, or we are just failing to get him the ball, he is a huge net negative. In theory, this team doesn't need offensive production from him. Was it nice to have it sometimes? For sure, but we need other skills from that position, especially because 3 of our 4 starters are below average defenders in their own right.

You can convince me that his skills and availability are useful, and that we can just use Larry or Trey to play the 5 at the end of games when we need to get stops. I would just rather go get a guy who can protect the rim and guard the PnR at high level that you can play all game and who's usefulness isn't so variable from game to game. Obviously that is easier said than done, but I think we should try our hardest to do it and move/move on from Jonas.

Beast rebounder and rim protector. Solid threat out of the pick-and-roll but not much of a scorer. He’s impactful as a defender and on the glass, but he does make a good-sized impact consistently

Poeltl. This is the only guy I wanted us to pick up at the deadline last year. Pretty much describes exactly what we need. I’d hate to trade off JV, but he’s younger and Willie seems to waste JV’s offensive game. Not sure what kind of salary he will get but should be in JVs ballpark.
