The Lakers also know through Rich Paul that they could wait and sign him in 12 months.

How did that work with Paul George?

Honestly, if I'm the Knicks or Lakers and I see a leak that Boston reportedly isn't offering the Memphis pick then my first thought isn't to offer the Pelicans more but less. Griffin would be a fool to accept that Celtics deal

Nah. This report emerges the same day that everyone is saying the Celtics must be out because Kyrie is gone. Nets deal happens, people universally say well Celtics are done.

This comes out.

It’s designed to tell other teams that our best trade partner is still in, and if they attempt to lowball or just go slightly over the Celtics offer, all they have to do is add one more asset and it’s over.

So you better come correct.

How about Tatum, Smart, Heyward, and the Memphis pick for AD, Solo, and Moore. Gives us a combination of both young and vet players, to give Zion a chance to mature.

Yes, you’re seeing the big picture Fun Bunch. I think it’s a chess match that’s being played and the media tweets are the pawns.

Celtics aren't our best trade partner if they don't add that Memphis pick. Other teams are laughing at this Fletch report not including the Mem pick.

It didn’t technically say no Memphis pick.

I’d rather a third team get involved so the Celtics keep Smart and we end up with Brown, Tatum and the Grizz pick. Smart is redundant with Jrue on the roster, plus we can afford to take a chance and pay Brown with all the rookie contracts we’ll have and Moore and Hill coming off the books.

The Celtics have Tatum. The best piece in any package, and the ability to top any offer that anyone comes with.

And everyone knows it.

kumar is saying that he believes that the Celtics being involved is sourced correctly but the actual trade particulars is Fletch speculating

We’re talking about changing the fortunes of businesses valued in the Billions of dollars. Are they really going to decide it’s ok to lowball a bid against a notoriously aggressive competitor based on what’s missing from an obviously incomplete report from a local beat writer?

Yes, Tatum is the best piece but that doesn't mean the Celtics get to take their second best piece off the table (which is what that Memphis pick is IMO) just because their best piece is better. I think they eventually add it but this report from Fletch makes no sense to me from a Celtics perspective. I also feel dirty for giving a Fletch tweet so much of my attention.

I'm not a 4d chess player, but if I'm the Pels I'm leaking that I'm going all in on keeping AD, and looking to deal some combo of Solo, Moore, and unprotected future picks for a fringe all star. I get that leaking another team's best deal helps, but I think that getting teams thinking that we're trying to keep AD may be better.

Yeah, who needs 2 All NBA Defense combo guards? That sounds awful.

ETA: for real though, why is redundancy bad in this scenario? Smart can handle the ball some, so Jrue doesn’t have to be on ball always. The thought of them defending opposing guards gives me a chubby. Smart fits next to Jrue better than Brown, if you’re concerned with fit.

Stop me if you have heard me say this before, but final trade is likely Tatum, Smart, filler and ONE of Jaylen or Grizz pick.

Is better than

Tatum, Smart, filler, and pick #14

Ball/Jrue/Ingram/Zion

vs

Smart/Jrue/Tatum/Zion

second one is a much better fit. Kuzma is meh as hell to me. Where does he even ft in this? The picks, I get. But I am going to assume Memphis pick gets thrown in.

False. It would be no true point guard, but two guards that can distribute, and also a freak athlete forward that can distribute. True positionless basketball.

You wanted Ball? You wanted a so-so player who comes with his loudmouth wannabe-coach dad and Big Baller Brand?

If Brown can get us Sabonis or Turner then I want Brown.

If it's the Memphis pick then same thing.

Don't see the need for Brown on this team.
He isn't worth a max in 2 years.
