Jimi Hendrix was a former member of the Isley Brothers backing band.
Bootsy Collins played with James Brown before he joined Parliament/Funkadelic and fronted Bootsy’s Rubber Band.
What really surprised me (already mentioned) was Rick James and Neil Young playing together!

I never realized that Bad Company was a supergroup until a few years ago.

Speaking of Fleetwood Mac, I had no idea Bob Welch "Ebony Eyes" and "Sentimental Lady" was in Fleetwood Mac at one time. Side note: When a Bob Welch song comes on I always ask my wife and kids if they like Bob Welch the singer, or Bob Welch the baseball player better.

Lemmy was in a hippy band called Hawkwind and wrote a song for them called Motörhead which was done by his next band without the saxophone lol;

Most folks kind of process that Rainbow and Deep Purple have back and forth band members, but in addition to the Joe Lynn Turners and Don Aireys of the world, Satch was briefly the lead guitarist of Deep Purple (although they did not record an album with him) and Steve Morse has been in over 30 years at this point.

Becker and Fagen's college band at Bard College was called Leather Canary. The drummer for that band went on to do some acting after college. Born Cornelius Crane Chase, he generally goes by "Chevy".

Sadly this happens to me more often than I like to admit, as I wasn't exactly exposed to a lot of music growing up (my dad insisted the radio stay off in the car). 
So my list would probably be pretty embarrassing... and as such I will keep it to myself.
