Raising Arizona for me - love me some Holly Hunter

but lebowski and burn after reading are up there to.

the Brad Pitt/ Clooney scene in BaR is hillarious.

probly my fav movie with John Malkovich aside from Con Air and Being John Malkovich..

At least once a week, something happens that warrants a line from that movie.

I do it all the time 30 years later.

Blood Simple is friggin brilliant.

It is. They were still in their 20s when they made that film (so was Frances) - or maybe Joel had turned 30 before they finished it, but an outstanding film for the budget and relative youth/inexperience of the filmmakers.

but I have to say their new movie Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which comprises six short stories from the old west, may have upscaled them all.

Damn, I had no idea they created that one. Bumped to the front of my Netflix queue for this weekend!

I like them all. No Country would be at the top but to me it's more about Cormac McCarthy than the Coen Brothers; even as great a job as they did with it.

This. No country is a great movie, one of my favs. But the dialog and scenes are straight from the book.

They did a hell of a job capturing the tone of the novel. No one else could have done it better.

O brother and Fargo are their masterpieces IMO.

1. No Country
2. Fargo
3. Miller's Crossing
4. Inside Llewyn Davis
5. True Grit

Probably blasphemy here, but don't really care for Big Lebowski

Wasn't a fan of True Grit and the bag of marbles Bridges had in his mouth while speaking.

I've seen Lebowski the most so I probably have to give it the nod. Although I celebrate most (not all) of their catalog.

When the right mood hits me, Miller's Crossing is one of my favorites.

I think it may be their best work.

Have any of y'all watched it, and what did you think ?

Watched it last night with the wife. We both loved it - it's worth watching again.

But then again, I'm a huge Coen Brothers fan. They may be the greatest movie making duo of all time imho.

That was and maybe still is my favorite. Watched it for the first time right after I'd read Dashiell Hammett's novel The Glass Key, on which it was partially based and really enjoyed it. Great take on noir/detective fiction.

I'll always love their early movies the most for what they meant to me personally as a budding film fan. I saw Barton Fink at the theater on the corner and it simply blew me away. It changed what I thought movies could be. And my brother and I can still communicate solely in Raising Arizona quotes. So my faves are that early run:

Blood Simple
Raising Arizona
Miller's Crossing
Barton Fink
Hudsucker Proxy
Fargo

I'll go ahead and say it, Lebowski is in the bottom half of Coen movies. Its not bad, but they have so many better movies than it.
Thanks you

Oh Brother Where Art Thou is easily my favorite.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Honestly, I didn't care much for it as a whole. I kept expecting them to tie all the little vignettes together like in a Seinfeld episode to give it some kind of more over-arching narrative than just a social commentary on the destructiveness of man and the inevitability of death. The opening section was easily my favorite. Buster Scruggs was hilarious. The second section with Franco was just ok. The paraplegic was straight up weird. The story with the wagon train was fantastic and moving, but completely depressing. The serial killers were kinda funny, but didn't really live up to expectations.
