one thing the governor seems to understand that Rick and co. do not....ammo conservation

that may have been another nod to complaining fans

I agree. Surprised to see the hate for the actress cast. I think they got it pretty much spot on.

Merle is a beast and should provide many great scenes.

I liked how Merle seemed to be a little more dialed back. Back in season 1, he was just a raging racist that was out of control. He seems to be a little more calmer now. Makes him more interesting. I guess we'll see how long that last.

they seem really interested in finding rick's group. I'm guessing they want their supplies or something. But how much shite can you expect to get from a small non military group?

B/c Rick's group is capable of surviving this long, the Gov knows they don't need him, which makes them a threat to be eliminated before they grow stronger than he is. Strongmen don't like other strongmen.
Same reason he killed the soldiers.
He couldn't assimilate them b/c of their existing group dynamic, so they had to go. He needs people like Merle and that idiot kid that was raking his leaves. You think the Gov really cares about those leaves? No, he's breeding servility.

Re: what I said earlier about the Gov's group being smarter about zombies. All I mean is that they don't act afraid of them at all. Being scared of something gives it more power over you than it has in and of itself.
Really these zombies are just like hungry bears, if bears were super slow, only human size/strength, and could be killed with a bat to the side of the head. If that type of bear was roaming around in large quantities, how scared of that would you be? You'd just adjust to the new reality and deal with it.
Rick's group does seem to be getting better at this, at least.
Still, you probably shouldn't break into a prison that's full of them and go down dark crowded hallways looking for them.

Gotcha. Makes sense. I didn't realize that's what you meant.

I kinda said something in that same vein when I mentioned that the Gov looks at the walkers as more of a nuisance than a threat.

Their defenses looked pretty solid. I'm surprised they didn't utilize a moat somehow. (Sorry I couldn't resist)

The Governor knows that a moat is a pipe dream, and ultimately ineffective.

i still say they have super human strength. e.g.

1) ripping horse flesh with hands and teeth
2) tearing into Dale like he was a rotisserie chicken.

It was a needed set up episode.

But honestly is was great for a set up episode.

I enjoyed it but didn't see it as very credible. Yea, I know, it's a zombie show but the governor riding up setting up a daylight raid was ridiculous. I guess he lulled soldiers off guard but if I'm armed under those conditions, my sights would be on the governor the whole time. As soon as he whipped out his pistol he should have been dead and everyone taking cover expecting an ambush. To me a night raid would have made a lot more sense. Or the governor could have led them down the road to their community and ambushed them at closer range from the side of the road. As was, the soldiers were in an open area with cover pretty far away. Those were some long shots the ambushers were taking to pick off the soldiers and the dumb arse soldiers didn't even take cover.

Noticed that too, and tried my best not to let it bother me.

Shane fricked Lori because he had the hots for her and Rick was dead. Lori fricked Shane because she's a count.

Merle is "subdued" because he is afraid of the Governor. For all the badass he tries to be, he's just a bully and that's it.

The daylight attack is ballsy, but those guys seem to have their tactic down.

Lori enjoyed the sex, like she wanted to screw Shane for a long time (before the zombies showed up)

The way I've always thought about it was that there was some type of love triangle going on before Rick got shot. That just gave them an excuse for the affair. Hell, it might have been going on before that

They have shown flashbacks that indicated Shane's interest in Lori pre-zombie invasion but I don't think they were implying affair.

I don't think they were trying to imply that either, but knowing how quickly Lori got over Rick it wouldn't surprise me

Does anyone else miss the flashbacks? I always liked them and it gave us a glimps into the characters, their motives and also what it was like when it all went down.

I think Lori had a thing for Shane lone before Rick got shot and couldn't wait to hit it. Shane was the single one who was kind of a man ho and she wanted a piece.

Did everyone notice Michonne's sword on the bookshelf during breakfast at the Governor's place. She seemed to notice it.

That's what I'm saying. It definitely makes it seem that way. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if she was having an affair before

Other things I picked up on in this episode:
1) there is definitely something weird about the tea and that guy. Did anyone else notice how often he refilled his cup when they were eating?
2) before the governor went into his aquarium of heads he looked at a picture of him and his family. Obviously he lost his family, maybe that's why he's so psychotic now
3) Michonne was annoying but I think she'll end up being a good character. She has has a very hard outer shell

Also, the governor really reminds me of Gary Oldman from Book of Eli

It seems like the show now goes out of it's way to throw at us that they are trying to conserve ammo. I think they could do a better job of showing that ammo is important without ridiculous one liners from the governor that seem out of place. The dialog has gotten weak recently although that was never the WD's strong point.

I really just want to know whats up with that tea. I feel like it will be important later since Andrea drank it and Michonne didnt. Plus with all the experimenting they do that has to play a part in it.

I noticed that too, told my wife and son the same thing.
And why did they just stand around and get slaughtered? Why didn't they open up on the gov when he shot first.
