Looking back at the photo I think it’s actually a 10/22 w/Tactical Solutions barrel.

Used Gun Pricing

A friend unexpectedly lost her father recently and came into approximately 20ish of his guns. Various pistols, older rifles, some modern stuff. I’m going to purchase a few for myself but want to help her get fair market value for everything. Is Gunbroker my best bet for establishing pricing, or is there a better source? The most expensive is either an older Ithaca 12gauge or a Tikka 7mm-08. Not dealing with $5k rifles

Ended up just going back with the Duracells from Sam’s. Discovered my onboard charger was not even working in the process… thanks again for all the tips.

Thanks for all the replies. This might be a dumb question, but I assume I will have to swap my on board charger for one that will charge lithium batteries, correct?

Boat Batteries

Bought a used boat… looks like my trolling motor/accessory batteries are shot (2018 date stamp).

Recommendations on reasonably priced options? I know I know Bust Out Another Thousand….

22ft Xpress running a 24v trolling motor, radio, and hummingbird. Nothing crazy.

re: Son wants a used aluminum boat

He will need papers on the boat/trailer in order to register both and avoid any hassle from WLF. He will also need proof of taking boaters safety course (online class thru LA WLF).

As far as the actual boat goes, they are a dime a dozen. I would encourage you to find one that is welded, not riveted. Any size motor will push the boat just depends on how fast he’s wanting to go. Tracker is probably the most popular brand.

If I remember correctly, the boat safety course also has a checklist of things he will need to keep in the boat such as lifejacket for each person on board a flare emergency Horn, etc. all of which may be inspected by a WLF agent at any time

Look into this. Game changer for my daughter.

re: West TX - Road Trip

Appreciate all the feedback. You’re right, I should have said Hill Country. I forget just how much further West TX goes AFTER San Antonio.

West TX - Road Trip

Posted by Jblac15 on 1/23/25 at 2:10 pm
Making a quick trip to Mountain Home TX for a work event. Will be driving from BR. Will 90% of the drive looks like it will be I-10, thru San Antonio, continuing Northwest. I’ve been to San Antonio but never further west. Are there any landmarks or hidden gems I should check out once we get passed San Antonio? Bonus points for the best BBQ.

Damn… first time I’ve ever seen anyone reference Riveroaks Elementary on here. 1993 to 1998!
We just got the same letter in mail pertaining to my wife’s contributions. Similar time teaching and has just shy of $15k to pull. If I’m reading correctly we can cash out while paying 20% penalty, or roll into a qualifying IRA. Only problem is her IRA is a Roth, so do I eat the 20% and use it to max her Roth this year and next, or go thru the trouble of opening a traditional IRA in her name for rollover?

I have a traditional IRA but her name isn’t on it. Will they let me transfer to it?

Fished with a guide out of Leeville Saturday morning.

We were nearly limited out by 9:00am.

Great fishing.

re: Your 2024 Financial Goals

Posted by Jblac15 on 12/29/23 at 8:44 am to
I like this… I’ll play.

1. Continue to max 401k
2. Continue ROTH’s for wife and I.
3. Continue 529 contributions for both kids
4. Allocate $$$ for a couple decent vacations
5. Look into getting PMI dropped from mortgage.
6. Figure out a way to lessen my tax burden as a normal W2 individual… (LLC of some sort)
7. Worry less about $$$ since items 1-3 are automatic and our bills are minimal.

Not necessarily a goal but wife’s car is 10 years old with 130k on the clock. Will inevitably have to replace in the near future.
In general they have a weak front diff, plus the design of 4x4 activation doesn’t help. The 4x4 actuator could be stuck trying to engage 4wd. I would ride on a straight path in grass or dirt and switch the 2wd/4wd back and forth a few times to see if that does it. No more than 5mph while trying this. Keep in mind it doesn’t engage/disengage instantly, it takes a few feet.

Great choice. I had 2ea 500HOs then recently picked up a used 570. All have been fantastic machines. I took my 570 to Colorado this summer and rode a large portion of the Alpine loop.

I’m not intending to use the 529 for anything other than educational expenses
