Honestly the whole mission was more just there to get gamers familiar with the gameplay. Robert is honestly the most forgettable part of the game.
This is very true and it wasnt really a complaint. It was more of a "If i have to find something wrong" type of thing

so we don't know what is being changed for TV and what isn't. for instance in the game spores play a HUGE role in the story. you get infected from airborn spores. they took them out of the show the way you get inflecte in the show as we saw are by the tendrils. so there may be other changes we don't even know about.
All I know is people complain about not "staying true to the video game" but the game is like 12 hours long and the majority of that is me going from house to house just killing infected and looking for supplies
TV is different you have to add different elements and I'm excited to see what they add.

She was annoying to me in GoT. Never really got the love for her characte
I thought her performance was fine, especially given she was like 11 or 12 apparently, but like much with the show at that point though, the problem came about that D&D were writing more to appease fan service than actually writing a good story with credible characters that make sense. Same issue the Walking Dead had most of its run.
She should have been 1 and done(as was originally intended reportedly), but instead, they shoehorned her back in again and again for cheap fan service.
I was skeptical on the casting initially, but then saw a short post-apocalyptic movie on Youtube you can find called "Zero" that might as well have just been her playing Ellie.

I’m not even saying it isn’t accurate. Just saying it felt sort of weird and forced. Maybe it’s the actress, who knows.
I’ve played both games and I think you’re both right. It’s 100% in-character for Ellie to cuss like a sailor, but it did feel a bit forced coming from Bella Ramsey. The character is a lot like Loretta from Justified or, to a lesser extent, Ruth from Ozark. Smart and capable beyond her years, but also a pain in the arse while lacking the real-world experience (or physical ability, since she’s a teenage girl) to deal with everything on her own.
I think Ramsey played the role well for the most part, it’s just still kind of hard to “accept” her as Ellie after half an episode. Her mannerisms are not exactly what I expected but it works IMO. I think it’ll start to fit better as she gets more screen time and builds the character. Although it is a bit concerning to hear that it was off-putting for people who had no preconceptions.

Also, I hope the show comes into its own and doesn’t fall completely in line with the game(s). Otherwise there will be spoiler assholes in this thread, as usual.
From what I understand it’ll mostly be expanding on the games rather than changing them. So certain storylines will be fleshed out better. I suspect (without much evidence) that we will get quite a few flashbacks to the period from 2003-2023 to build the world and tell backstories which were missing from the game. At least that’s what I hope.
Regardless I wouldn’t expect the main events (the biggest potential spoilers) to change much. Just have to hope people aren’t complete assholes.

Great pilot, don’t think I even got halfway through the game so remember next to nothing of it. First half was tense as hell, Sarah actress killed it. It’s going to be a real loss if at some point in the show someone doesn’t ask Joel for directions so he can say “this is the way.”

Anyway got to rewatch the episode this morning and I’ll say this the best episode of a show I’ve seen since classic GoT. The episode was pretty much perfect, can’t think of anything negative to say
100% this. I am looking forward to doing a rewatch tomorrow with the wife (can't do it tonight for obvious reasons). I think she will love this.

O nice. TN is awesome, doesn't surprise me her daughter is already a good actress.

My review of the pilot:

Episode was a perfect setup and this fricking scene had me floored. The way she looks at him fascinated with the violence. shite is going to get very real very fast

Very rarely does any video game movie ever even reach expectations, but they nailed it. The source material is a big part of that as well. It was basically a Hollywood-level script just waiting to be made.

I really enjoyed the first episode, but one thing bothered me ... the suddenness of the outbreak.
As a point of comparison, I see World War Z (the book, not the abortion of a film) as the epitome of the zombie genre. There, the infection spread slowly. There were news reports from other parts of the world for weeks, and even arguments about hoaxes and the like. If felt ... real.
In this episode, no one seemed to have heard of ANYTHING. No news, no discussions, nothing. At breakfast, there was no fungus, and by dinner the world had gone batshit insane.
This seems like a "character" show, so I will just have to ignore this one quibble, because the character development seems to be outstanding.

This bears repeating.
Hopefully this won't spawn a bunch of "money-grab" style video game adaptations from the studios without considering the strength of the source material on it's own.

Agree with this. Also wasn’t crazy about the QZ scenes - glad the story is moving out of that setting (hopefully).
Overall solid start

Simple....Virus VS Fungus
Fungus was attached to vegetables imported from South America, consumed by the masses.
Fungus infection begins to take over the mind in 48 hours or Less. By the time people begin showing symptoms, it's too late to quarantine.

The Cordyceps came from infected crops and grain from South America and Indonesia. It's hinted that there was an incubation period before they took control of their hosts with the girl twitching in class and the neighbor contorting her face, so it wasn't an immediate transformation. Everyone infected by the contaminated food turned first at the same time and from there, anyone that was attacked would turn as quickly as 5-15 mins based on the poster we saw in the QZ. We also only saw things go down in Austin so it could have been days or weeks for it to spread worldwide. We also don't know how much the governments were suppressing information about it.
It obviously requires some suspension of disbelief but I can buy into it. The problem with scenarios like World War Z and The Walking Dead is in reality, we would contain those outbreaks pretty quickly before they became apocalyptic events. It has to be something sudden and overwhelming for it to just destroy civilization.

One reason I never got into zombie stuff like TWD is because I hate how it is transferred to someone else. They could be bashing a zombies head in and blood flying all over their face and mouth and nothing happen, but if you get even the tiniest little bite, you're about to be a zombie yourself in a few seconds. I like the fungus idea and that there is at least a short quarantine time with this, even if there's nothing you can do about it.
