Anyone who’s played Pandemic/Plague Inc knows you have to buy the transmission upgrades first and let it go global, before buying symptoms and ramping up the lethality. Hide and wait.

The creator and director talked about this on the podcast specifically. Such an amazing scene and compare it to the way sarah looked when Joel killed the next door neighbor how it was the polar opposite

Simple....Virus VS Fungus Fungus was attached to vegetables imported from South America, consumed by the masses. Fungus infection begins to take over the mind in 48 hours or Less. By the time people begin showing symptoms, it's too late to quarantine.

This. I think many people were confused and trying to compare it to resident evil/walking dead etc shows with viruses.

and this new heat-tolerant fungus suddenly evolved into being simultaneously on all seven continents?

It didn’t start in one place and slowly spread as fruits and vegetables were shipped from (for instance) the Caribbean to other places in the world?

Sorry, but that is a silly explanation.

Well that makes sense because now that you said that, she looks exactly like her.

I really enjoyed the first episode, but one thing bothered me ... the suddenness of the outbreak.

In this episode, no one seemed to have heard of ANYTHING. No news, no discussions, nothing. At breakfast, there was no fungus, and by dinner the world had gone batshit insane.

I do agree with that too. Hard to believe it could go to shite that fast. It didn’t bother me as much as you, but it was definitely noticeable.

It did bug the shite out of me that Joel left his young-ish daughter at home by herself without telling her he was leaving. As a parent that bothered me more than it should have.

Like just tell her “hey I have to go help uncle Tommy and will be back later.” Even if the world hadn’t gone to shite while she was asleep, she at least would know you had left.

This isn’t World War Z. It’s not a simulation of an outbreak, as great as that book was for that aspect.

The setup is important particularly as it sets up the characters. Their development and choices are what makes this game/show so great.

do you have proof it happened everywhere at the same time? they didn't show any other locations and they only showed 1 night. maybe where they were was one of the first places hit

Seemed to me like it was trying to contain an initial outbreak where they didn’t really know what was going on, hence a few things (no spoilers).

And its certainly plausible that they were likely other “initial” outbreaks going on at the same time then the story fast forwards, so you don’t really know what happened in the next weeks/months.

Man y’all are way too hyper focused on the cause of the outbreak, guess it’s better than complaints in the other thread

They had just explained earlier that 80s music meant red alert too. Right?

Is it possible they are going to parcel out the pertinent information as we learn more about the characters and see what they go through?

Putting all of that background into an already lengthy episode would have likely made for a clumsy, crummy info-dump.

Yes.

And the song was 1987.

I was enjoying EP1 right up to the time jump. after that, it became boring and uninteresting. bland dialogue and meh characters

Pretty sure that means "no spoilers from the source material" and NOT "you cannot talk about an episode after it AIRS."
