Close to perfection.

If Gosling doesn't get an Oscar for it, the Academy is even more worthless than I thought.

I didn’t follow it much when it came out. Had low expectations because I thought it was a knockoff of The Martian or Interstellar.

Watched it this weekend. What an amazing film. Really good acting, writing, etc. I agree that Gosling deserves an Oscar. He carries the entire movie in an engaging way.

Same author - Andy Weir - who wrote The Martian. I was thinking something like Passengers, which was a bit of a star trip on steroids, but still enjoyable.

PHM was really well done. One of those movies you have to watch every scene to get the whole story.

I thought the movie glossed over some important plot points from book. But they had to condense it down into something palatable to genpop and they did it well.

They did a great job with the movie translating from the book. After multiple rewatches at home it’s apparent they included most stuff just obviously in a very condensed way. Something from the book that is multiple pages worth may be one sentence in the movie.

I was just coming to TD to post about this. What a fantastic movie. Basically just one dude and a puppet on screen for 2 1/2 hours and it was highly entertaining throughout.

Agreed about the Oscar. Gosling was great.

It’s wild the gap between sci-fi like this movie and Grungelman and Blinkus. I actually felt something instead of just waiting for it to be over.

Watched it again this weekend. One of the few movies I’ve seen recently where several times during the course of the film I broke from it and thought “what a good movie”.

I really enjoyed it, but am I wrong that Gosling just acted like Gosling? I’m not sure I’d give an Oscar to someone who seemed like he was just being himself without same sarcastic humor he has in every one of his movies.

I hear you but he had to carry a semi-serious movie with a puppet. He was engaging, gave his character depth, and carried the movie without chewing up scenery. Most Oscars are basically glorified impersonations. This was more impressive.

The story makes me wonder about when Grace finally has the opportunity to return to Earth. He would have made it back no less than 45 Earth years after his departure. There would be statues of him in every world capitol. He saved everyone.

I don’t think Grace goes home. There’s nobody for him on Earth and his best friend is on Erid.
