Amazing video. The biggest revelation for me is that time dilation keeps going if you maintain acceleration, even if you never exceed the speed of light. The idea that the whole galaxy, and indeed the whole universe is accessible within one human lifespan with our current knowledge of physics is mind blowing. Solving the mass problem (and the perfect conversion of mass to energy, the craziest thing about astrophage) is daunting but at least this makes interstellar travel reasonable science fiction and not just pure fantasy.
However, don't watch Aniara, a perhaps too realistic depiction of what would really happen on a (slower, more reasonably imagined) multi-generational trip through space.

I watched it last night. It was a wonderful film, highly recommend it. My main complaint was the last 20 mins got silly. Just end the freaking movie. It had like 4 different endings. It just kept going.

Finished the audiobook two weeks ago and finally able to see it last night
It was great. They did well with the limitations from the movie time limit format; of course there would be stuff left out.
I liked all the science in the book and it really helped with the flow and how problems arose and were solved. However, I understand they couldn't put all of that in there so Grace could either come off as too smart or too dumb in moments. To counter my own argument, even with all the exposition in the book Grace could come off as too smart and finding solutions too quickly.
Rocky was done incredibly well. I'm glad in the movie Grace got to see the ship.

It had one ending though. I mean you expected it to end with grace and Rocky leaving each other? I don’t even understand how you interpreted multiple endings

I haven’t read the book.
I loved the movie. The suspense was done nicely. The comedy was good. You get a lot of different emotions watching the various scenes. Ending was great. Understand that they changed it up , giving Grace the option to go home (it’s implied the Eridians fixed his ship). I heard that’s not the case in the book . It was fun to see Rocky and Grace work together almost as a “husband and wife” type duo. Great movie.

I’m not sure if this has been said already—and I’m not claiming it’s better—but Project Hail Mary feels like the closest thing my kids’ generation has gotten to ET.
We went to see it again on Saturday, and judging by its box office legs, it looks like a lot of people are doing the same—and enjoying it even more the second time.
My son already has me ordering Rocky T-shirts and posters. And funny enough wants to watch all the Rocky(Stallone) movies this weekend.

I read the book a couple years ago. I don’t recall him having the option to go home. Guess I’m wrong

How is PHM for kids? I have a 6.5 year old and he's seen a good bit of movies that are what I guess I'd call "soft PG-13" movies. Like he's seen Jurassic Park and whatnot.
I loved the book and can't wait to see this, and he saw me reading the book and always asked questions about it and wants to see it. But I generally don't let him watch movies that are PG-13 that I haven't seen first. But I specifically remember the book NOT having cussing in it. And there's no violence either. I'm curious as to why it got a PG-13 rating in the first place. But I find it hard to believe there's anything in it that my son couldn't watch. Thoughts?

Its pretty fine for kids. There was a couple of curse words and some fairly intense scenes but I think it would be mostly fine.

If he’s seen Jurassic Park, he can do PHM

This is the softest PG-13 movie I have ever seen. No cursing, no sexual content other than a mildly suggestive joke, and no violence. The dead bodies of the astronauts at the beginning look a little creepy because they are dried out. There are far scarier parts in Jurassic Park and even E.T.

That should be fine. The wife and I saw it yesterday, great movie! This sort of writing is what Hollywood needs to get back to focusing on instead of the Virtual Signal of the Day.
***SPOILERS***
I get what RLDSC was talking about with the ending. The scene before the problem with the solid Xenon felt like a solid ending. The rest, where he goes to the planet was a nice touch but it could have ended earlier, had him getting back to Earth and being proclaimed a hero as well. It's not movie-breaking (nothing in the movie was), just a difference of personal preference.
The only issue I had with the story was the need to stay outside the ship for the entirety of the gathering process. Just gather then fly back out and pull the container up after you're out of the atmosphere. Another option would have been for Rocky to manufacture some way to pilot the ship while Grace was out doing the space walk.
And that's just a minor quibble.
If you don't want to keep getting the tons of dreck we've been getting from Hollywood, send a signal by going to the theater to see this movie instead of waiting for it to stream (that will also help your local theater stay in business).

Good to know, thanks. I have a "boys' weekend" with him coming up where mom is out of town, and he wants to go see a movie, so I was thinking maybe either this or the new Super Mario movie.
Intense doesn't bother him. I did let him watch Die Hard the other day

I took my 7 year old yesterday.
She loved it, despite not understanding what was happening a lot of times.
But he will love Rocky and the humor.

If I recall correctly, he has the option to go home, but he was around 70+ years old at the time. They kept him young in the movie. So, it was a combination of his body aging and his only friend in all of existence being on the planet he was currently on.

Husband and I took his son to see it Sunday. It was just as enjoyable as the first watch. I did notice some things the second time around that I missed the first time.

I thought they'd learned their lesson when Top Gun: Maverick was such a BFD, but instead, we got Cynthia Errivo as Elphaba, Black Snape & Dot Indian Fox Mulder.

There’s nothing inappropriate but it’s a 2.5 movie so boredom will be the issue. My 11 year old fell asleep. Kids won’t appreciate the story or all the humor.
