The one thing I truly enjoyed was the Scott O’Grady/Behind Enemy Lines sort of tie in.

Official “Top Gun: Maverick” Thread - Spoilers Welcomed

Saw this last weekend with my wife. Mav says "talk to me goose" twice in the movie. When Rooster says "talk to me dad" my wife laughed out loud and said, "I'm out". She then left and went to the arcade. I finished the movie, but the entire ending of the movie was ridiculous.
A. I don’t believe any of this actually happened
I assure you, it did happen. It's not like she was loving the movie to begin with.

B. If true, your wife sounds like a miserable wench. And what grown woman goes to the arcade during a movie in which you paid for?
She's a pretty good wife. Just didn't like this movie. She went to the arcade b/c it was 100° outside. What was she supposed to do? Sit in the car? I've walked out of a few movies before I didn't like before. Do you really find that unusual?

Didn't know that obviously. I've only seen the older ones. Thanks

This movie is overhyped but in no way is it walk out bad.
I think Sahara with MM was the only one I’ve ever just upped and left

Saw it today, it was a good sequel, which is rare today. It also had decent nostalgia to the original.
Jennifer Connelly is aging like a fine wine. She looked great in the movie.

I watched this earlier today and really enjoyed it. I thought parts of it were slightly too much of a wink back to the original, but I'll admit I was somewhat emotionally invested by the end.
The action scenes were amazing. I generally enjoy Marvel movies, but it was so refreshing to watch a summer blockbuster that doesn't overly rely on CGI.
Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly both look amazing for their age.
For context I'm someone who has watched and enjoyed the original, but it isn't an all time favorite.

As for me, despite living in the Cradle of Naval Aviation when it came out, the first time My wife and I saw the OG was Friday night. We were meeting another couple to see Maverick on Saturday and wanted to get up to speed on the characters.
My opinion on both movies: classic turn-off-your-brain 80s summer blockbusters. Sure, there was a lot of fan service in the new flick, but that’s why they made it.
Flight scenes were fantastic, as well they should have been since it was all real (save for the missiles and bullets). I agree with some of Draco’s criticisms - the writing was pretty lazy - but this wasn’t supposed to be a deep film, so I didn’t mind the shallow dialogue and plot points. If anything, the original was even more shallow and simplistic.
What I did like: while the characters were largely stereotypical, they weren’t poisoned by current Hollywood politics: nothing was made of the fact that the pilots were POC or female. In fact fighter pilots are one area where it’s believable that a woman could be competitive with a man, as there’s not as much physical strength involved. And I agree, Jennifer Connelly is gorgeous - but she’s also 8-10 years younger than the character she was playing.
I personally enjoyed the scene where Mav wandered into the diner after his crackup - although I question his judgement in proving that the multi-bilion dollar experimental plane was capable of meeting its test objective in order to save the project from termination, then recklessly destroying it in the next minute (worst plot point of the movie IMHO).
I also thought more of the plot might be devoted to Cain’s assertion that fighter pilots were a dying breed, to be replaced by drones. I think it would have been cool if the mission had involved the human pilots training to fly in support of a drone strike due to the extreme risk of the mission, then having the drones screw up and the humans save the day - a well-worn trope, to be sure, but somewhat more interesting twist (to me, anyway).
Finally, i disagree that the movie had a MI vibe, seeing as the entire last third of the film was an almost shot-for-shot remake of SW:ANH
Overall, though, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Great escapist flick with a happy ending. Two thumbs up.

Yeah, and so is Miles Teller.
Maybe ole Mav was chasing high school tail back in 1986?

a theater cam video of maverick stealing the jet to prove the mission could done is on youtube. after watching it, i noticed that the camera angle in front of maverick shows him leaning into the turns agressively. the camera from the back of maverick shows him flying as if he's driving miss daisy for her sunday ride.

Just got out of this and it was great.
I loved the fact that they checked all the diversity boxes but I had to think about it to figure out they did it. They didn't sacrifice a thrilling, well-rounded story on the alter of progressive anger and overcompensation. They had white people. Black people. Hispanic people. Strong women. Alpha males. Beautiful women. And I hardly noticed. They were just all relatable characters (except I can't relate to flying an airplane)
Best of all, I don't have any idea about any of the characters' sexual preference except Maverick and Penny. I'd lost hope that filmmakers had forgotten that sexual preference is actually not the most important thing about a character in most films.
Thank you, Top Gun.

Yeah I’m telling everyone to go see it in theaters. Nice contrast with Lightyear, if that indeed flops.

Many of today’s writers sacrifice “character” for “identity,” and our stories suffer for it.
